Lee Everett’s story might’ve ended with the first season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, but the beloved history professor/zombie killer is coming back this summer – just not in the way that fans expect.
As part of this weekend’s Walking Dead’s Walker Stalker Fan Fest, the cast of the Walking Dead’s first season is reuniting for a live performance. Lee’s original voice actor, Dave Fennoy, will star, while several of the other actors – including Clementine herself, Melissa Hutchison – will also return.
Reportedly, the game’s stars will recreate “a series of scenes from the game,” although the official announcement doesn’t indicate how the actors will handle the game’s branching narrative. That question will be answered in a couple of days – the performance begins this Saturday at 8:00 PM PDT. Fans can attend the show in person (one day admission to the Fan Fest costs $30, while a weekend pass costs $55), or watch the performance via Twitch for free.
The Walker Stalker Fan Fest runs all weekend at PETCO Park in San Diego, right next door to San Diego Comic-Con. In addition to the live read, Skybound Entertainment and Telltale have a number of fun events planned for Walking Dead fans. On Friday, Emily Kinney – who played Beth Greene on The Walking Dead television show – will perform with her band. On Saturday, Night of the Living Dead: Darkest Dawn, a CG tribute to George Romero’s seminal 1968 zombie film, makes its world premiere.
In addition to the scheduled events, actors from the Walking Dead television show – including Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker – will be on hand to sign autographs, although those will cost extra. For the fourth year in a row, PETCO will also host The Walking Dead: Escape, in which fans play as either zombies or survivors and chase each other through a huge, trap-filled obstacle course.
If that’s not enough The Walking Dead, Telltale representatives will appear at Skybound Entertainment’s panel at Comic-Con itself, where they’ll talk about the game’s upcoming mini-season. Called Walking Dead: Michonne, the three episode series will follow titular fan-favorite katana-wielding badass as she strikes out on her own. The season is in the same continuity as the Walking Dead comic, and takes place during issues 126 through 139, offering players a better look at what Michonne was up to when she disappeared from the book.
