TellTale's The Walking Dead was a huge success when it launched in 2012, spawning several follow-ups and going on to be remembered as one of the best story-focused video games of the decade. One of the defining reasons behind this acclaim was its protagonist, Clementine, who starred in every iteration of TellTale's take on the zombie IP until its conclusion in 2018.
Today, Skybound Entertainment announced the beloved character is slated to make her return, although this time it won't be through the realm of video games. Revealed via a press release on the company's website, Clementine's comeback will take place in Skybound X: a five-part anthology comic series coming this July that will see iconic characters and creators return to celebrate the publisher's 10-year anniversary.
The weekly issues will tackle a host of weird and wonderful stories from the company's most iconic IPs, with The Walking Dead heading the lineup with two different tales. The first will focus on Clementine's return and the second will follow The Walking Dead's protagonist Rick Grimes. Each of the five issues will include a special chapter from the Rick Grimes 2000 series, which takes place in an alternate universe where the former police officer goes head-to-head with aliens after finding out they're controlling the undead hordes.
As for Clementine's return, it will be interesting to see where the comic's story falls in regards to the timeline of the games. While there's room to pick up from the ending of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, with Clementine living at Ericson's Boarding School with AJ, there's also plenty of time in between the events of the four games that could be better fleshed out. The version of her depicted on the comic's cover doesn't look too far off her appearance in The Final Season, which suggests it'll likely take place in a similar time frame to her last adventure.
Alongside The Walking Dead, other franchises slated to get Skybound X stories include Assassin Nation, Manifest Destiny, and Excellence. The issues will bring back a host of creators synonymous with each franchise, including Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, Tillie Walden, Donny Cates, James Harren. Skybound X isn't the only big project Skybound has this year, with the company currently airing an animated adaptation of Kirkman and Ottley's renowned superhero comic, Invincible. The title features a host of impressive voice talent, including actors such as Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Zachary Quinto, and Lauren Cohan, and has already received rave reviews from critics and viewers.
Skybound X is set to debut this July.
