Cyberpunk 2077 is finding its reputation slowly being repaired after one of the most disastrous video game launches in recent history. With the enormous 50 GB patch 1.5 mending and changing so much, it's looking like it's finally on the way to being the completed vision that CD Projekt Red originally intended. However, there still seems to be a bit to go until it's in a fully satisfactory state, and people can forgive the original launch, but in the meantime, this one modder has been working on making the experience a lot more immersive.

In a recent post on their Patreon page, Luke Ross has posted some further details about an upcoming VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077. An accompanying video shows off some of the aspects of it, such as the menu system, driving in third and first-person mode, and engaging in a little bit of street carnage. The five-minute footage shows how impressive the game looks through a virtual reality headset, and while the post doesn't specify a release date, a report from PC Gamer says that Ross had been in touch to announce that it's likely to be out by the end of this week.

Apparently, while the mod does implement head tracking functionality, it won't utilize the VR controllers and will, instead, require the standard control scheme. The demonstration, which also shows it being used for Cyberpunk 2077's photo mode, looks fantastic, even in lower resolutions. In fact, it may even look best, with Ross saying on their Patreon page that the "clarity and level of detail" are nothing short of "astounding." The modder also says that the VR mode should work with patch 1.5, and they have yet to see any "performance reduction" between this version and 1.31.

VR implementation for Cyberpunk 2077 was bound to be an inevitability. Given the popular rise of virtual reality, and with games like Resident Evil 4 VR showing how successfully it can be done, Ross' "R.E.A.L." mod will almost certainly be welcome by those who have the equipment to run it.

As for the game itself, while the developer is still trying to quash new issues, even after the latest update, it seems many are willing to give Cyberpunk 2077 a second chance. It's been more than a year since the game came out, and at the time, it was such an enormous let-down, that it may have hurt CD Projekt Red's reputation for good. But at least it's a lot better than what it was back in December 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
