The Fortnite community has grown by leaps and bounds ever since the game's launch in 2017, and one month ago that community changed a man's life forever. That man is VoiceOverPete, and he makes voice over content on a website called Fiverr - or at least he used to.

Last month, a YouTuber asked Pete to produce a short Fortnite-based voiceover including a few lines about sending credit card information, and VoiceOverPete delivered. It wasn't long after this that his video rose to meme status among the Fortnite community, racking up millions of views. Suddenly, VoiceOverPete had hundreds of requests for voiceover work from members of the gaming community. In short, his voiceover career had grown at a pace only viral attention could permit.

Unfortunately, the excessive attention had a negative side, too. A month later, Fiverr reviewed VoiceOverPete's account and banned him for creating videos for a 'credit card scam'. VoiceOverPete wasn't aware of the ban at first, with his son only noticing after being tagged in multiple tweets from customers who suddenly couldn't place orders on Fiverr. Despite an immediate public outcry, the Fiverr Trust and Safety team have stood by their choice to ban him. The team stated that an attempt to defraud or scam others is a clear violation of the website's terms and services, which creates a pretty tight case - even if the request for credit card information was made as a joke.

As one might expect a recently meme-ified personality to do, he made a YouTube video about the entire situation:

Peter and his son, PJ, are already looking on to new pastures. In the above video, Voice Over Pete announced that he'll be continuing his voice work service via Patreon for a slightly lower price. He'll also be starting his own Twitch account, where he'll be playing the very game that brought him his success: Fortnite. Unsurprisingly, it seems like his fans are very excited about potentially squadding up with VoiceOverPete and heading out to Dusty Divot. The newly-minted meme is optimistic about the future, and is more than happy to continue getting help from his more technologically-hip son:

When your 25-year-old son looks at you and wants to participate in anything you’re doing, I say that’s a win-win, absolutely.

There are still plenty of VoiceOverPete videos out there, though not all of them are Fortnite related. In fact, one of them is just him saying chair 45 times in a row.

While we can only hope his Twitch feed will bring more dynamic content, Epic Games is certainly doing its part to freshen up the game itself. There are rumors that an aerial vehicle is in the works, and a new partnership with the NFL will allow gamers to don the uniforms of their favorite NFL team. Of course, that opens up an entire new angle for in-game banter, so sports fans should represent their team at their own risk.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
