Jade Raymond, general manager for Visceral Games, reveals that Visceral's upcoming Star Wars title is 'groundbreaking' and that the game will tell a new Star Wars story.

It's fair to say that developer Visceral Games truly made its name in the industry through the deep dark of space. Visceral helmed the hugely successful Dead Space series, so it's perhaps no surprise that the developer was chosen by EA to helm a brand new game in the Star Wars franchise. Now, Visceral has been able to share some details surrounding the development of this project.

Opening up in a blog post over at the EA website, general manager of Motive Studios and Visceral Games Jade Raymond waxed lyrical about this new project, expressing that the game in question will be "groundbreaking." Raymond, who left Ubisoft and then joined EA to work on Star Wars games alongside a new IP, extolled praise on the developers, suggesting that the Amy Hennig-helmed team is "taking this project in groundbreaking directions," at that Visceral is "forging ahead into an exciting phase of development."

In particular, Raymond singled out the work of Hennig, who previously found success with the Uncharted series before leaving Naughty Dog. "Seeing Amy Henning lead this team through the creative process has been incredible," said Raymond. The general manager continued to state that Hennig is "a rare breed of storyteller, and she’s collaborating with the creative leaders at Lucasfilm to tell a new, authentic Star Wars story."

Just what this story will be is as yet unknown, but Raymond has suggested that more will be shared about the title in the months ahead, as well as the new IP from Motive Studios that is rumored to be similar to Assassin's Creed. With Raymond signing off the blog post with "see you in a couple of weeks," there is the possibility that one or both of these games will be present at E3 2016 in some fashion. Indeed, this new Motive Studios project could even be the new IP reveal that EA has teased for E3.

That said, more information on Visceral's Star Wars game would also be created appreciated at the expo. The title made our list of games we want to see at E3 2016, and plenty of Star Wars fans would love to get an update on exactly where the project is likely to fall. That said, the game is still set to be years away from release according to EA, so perhaps not quite enough work will have been completed for it to be ready for this year's E3.

So far, of course, EA's use of the Star Wars property has been met with a mixed reception. The lack of a single-player mode in Star Wars Battlefront did not go over entirely well with fans of the franchise, and there were suggestions that EA could do more with Star Wars. That said, between the Visceral project, Respawn Entertainment's new Star Wars game, and whatever BioWare will eventually have in store, the future of Star Wars video games looks increasingly bright.
