As Valve's Steam Deck handheld PC draws ever closer to being released, the world is starting to see more and more about what the device can do, as well as the games it can run. Recently, developers who received the dev-kit gave praise to the device, making note of the decent framerate, with titles running quite smoothly. Now, a video has emerged which shows someone playing The Witcher 3 on the Deck, with the results impressing the community.

Uploading the footage to the Witcher Subreddit recently, user SmashBrosFanalic has shown others on the site how the third installment in the CD Projekt Red RPG runs on the Steam Deck. While the footage is only brief and the screen is shown at a slight angle, it does show some of the fast-paced action of the game, where it does appear to be running quite smoothly. The user also said that they managed to get it running at between 30-60 fps.

Many in the comments are impressed with what they've seen, with some even saying that the Deck appears to run better than the Nintendo Switch version of Witcher 3. One person also commented on how good the sound seemed, which again is something that studios and partners who were sent a development kit praised.

The one concern that a couple of people had was that the device looked like it could be uncomfortable to hold, particularly for those who have smaller hands. This is something that has been noted in the past, before the dev-kits were sent out. A few months ago, someone 3D printed the Steam Deck's chassis, and was able to have a good feel of the design through the replica. The results suggest that there were some ergonomic issues, particularly with regard to the location of the analog stick, as well as the B button. It also raised concerns about the use of the touchpads requiring hand repositioning. However, there doesn't appear to be any feedback on this from people who have played the real thing.

There were also issues involving whether it would be compatible with every game, as Valve were suggesting. However, since then, the Steam Deck has been given updated support, which should resolve any compatibility issues. Overall, the upcoming handheld PC is shaping up to be one that many are looking forward to trying out. It's already received praise from studios, as well as Xbox's Phil Spencer, and now it looks as though this footage showing the Witcher 3 is alleviating any doubts about framerates.

The Steam Deck releases in December.
