In the decade since its release, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has taken different forms. Spanning across several console generations and appearing in different form factors, Skyrim has reached an incredibly large audience of players. Though, one adaptation of Skyrim that many players tend to take for granted, or not even consider, is the VR version of Skyrim.

While previously seen as a gimmick by many in the gaming community, virtual reality has started to become a much more refined and accessible medium for players to enjoy. With VR ports of older games like Resident Evil 4 and classic GTA breathing new life into significantly older games, there are a number of elements that VR brings to the table that regular gaming doesn't have the capability to present. Now, one Skyrim VR player has recently been made acutely aware of this fact.

Reddit user Kegnu, while playing Skyrim in VR, managed to kill Grelod the Kind, the sadistic caretaker of the Honorhall Orphanage in Riften, by punching her in the face. Grelod is considered by many Skyrim fans to be one of the most hated characters in the entire game, due to her verbal and physical abuse towards the children of the orphanage.

Many consider Skyrim to be an already immersive experience, with players being given a large amount of user interactivity. However, the difference between killing Grelod the Kind in the regular game, as opposed to being able to physically punch her in VR is quite a step up. It's almost comparable to playing Superhot in VR as opposed to playing the game regularly.

It's amazing to see how much of a reach Skyrim has had in terms of gaming as a medium. In addition to VR, Skyrim has been released on two subsequent console generations after the game's initial release on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Not to mention that Skyrim even released on Amazon Alexa back in 2018, allowing users to play the game using voice commands.

It will be interesting to see what the future will hold for The Elder Scrolls series going forward. While The Elder Scrolls 6 is confirmed to be in development, there has been little to no additional information regarding the game's development since its initial unveiling. In fairness, Bethesda has had its hands full with a lot of different projects, such as Skyrim: Anniversary Edition and Starfield. With any luck, The Elder Scrolls 6 will receive some sort of development update in the months to come.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
