Spyro is a classic and fan-favorite among platform games. The franchise was reignited in 2018 for the new generation of consoles. 3D platformer games such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Jak & Daxter, and Ratchet & Clank have loyal fanbases that span across generations. However, these types of games had limited data and storage availability due to their time limitations.

They compensated with non-linear design and replayability across levels. High-scores, timed trails, environmental puzzles, and collectible items added significant value to this genre of games. Subsequently, while these franchises have gone through one remastering after another, there are plenty of new franchises that can appeal to their audiences.

Players have the option to traverse the world solo or with friends. Each level of the game is designed to have unique surprises. Players also have over 60 costumes to mix and match along the way.

Developed by Sumo Digital, Sackboy: A Big Adventure will release on November 12th, 2020, and will be available on the PS5. The Digital Deluxe Edition of the game will be available on both the PlayStation 4 and 5.

9 Glyde The Dragon - TBA

An epic action-adventure platformer influenced by classic PlayStation adventure games like Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot. Glyde The Dragon will feature core gameplay mechanics that are similar to the original Spyro Trilogy, however, with its own unique twists. Big hub worlds will encourage players to explore and enter worlds.

The game features various dragon breeds and species, along with colorful levels, and Metroidvania-like exploration. This means there are plenty of combat styles to try out along the journey. Glyde The Dragon is being developed by Valefor Games and is still in the development stage. An official release date has not been announced.

8 Sayri: The Beginning - 2020

In Sayri: The Beginning players are whisked away to a colorful world filled with curious creatures. As a result, players take on the role of Sayri, a creature who is forced to flee their homeworld after the planet dies. Using telekinetic abilities solve the puzzles that surround the new world. Developed by Vidloonnya Reborn, the adventure game is a story of friendship and overcoming loss.

Likewise, players can befriend local creatures, who can help solve the many challenges hidden around the environment. This family-friendly game is designed to inspire the imagination and appeal to the inner child of all ages. Sayri: The Beginning will be released later this year, and will be available on Steam.

7 Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - TBA

The classic adventure duo is back and they have plenty of new friends. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart allows players to jump between multiple action-packed dimensions at mind-blowing speeds. Join Ratchet and Clank as they battle against an evil emperor, as well as familiar enemies. Players will also be able to play as a new female Lombax resistance fighter.

There is plenty of outrageous weaponry and physics-defying new gadgets, players can use to burst their way home. Developed by Insomniac Games a release date for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has yet to be announced, the game will be available on the PS5.

6 Misc. A Tiny Tale - 2021

Follow the tale of Buddy and BagBoy, two tiny robots making their way through a big world. In this 3D platforming adventure game, players will collect cogs to repair gates and unlock new chapters in the adventure. Also along the way they meet a cast of unique characters who players can help and receive help from along the way.

Tackle underground platforming challenges, and traverse a world where items that seem unordinary become mountains. The game also allows players to explore the mindsets of the two characters with interlude stories between chapters. Developed by Tinyware Games, Misc. A Tiny Tale is expected to release in 2021 and will be available on Steam.

5 Trifox - TBA

Taking inspiration from classic 3D platformers, such as Crash Bandicoot, Trifox is a top-down twin-stick action-adventure game. In Trifox play as the multitalented hero as he embarks on a quest to restore his home. Explore colorful environments and face swarms of enemies. Uncover the secret plans of an evil mastermind and outsmart enemies.

Likewise, players are encouraged to mix and match between the three play styles to find creative ways to clear areas. Trifox is developed by Glowfish Interactive a release date has yet to be announced for the game, it will be available on Steam and consoles.

4 OMNO - March/April 2021

OMNO is a third-person adventure game, developed by solo developer Jonas Manke. Players will travel through a lush forest, a scorching desert, and a frigid tundra. In short, the single-player journey offers an interactive world, filled with puzzles and hidden secrets. The world of OMNO has a variety of creatures for players to befriend.

For example, shy crab-like rocks, turtles willing to lend a hand, and even friendly dinosaurs bring the world to life. Unlock unique skills and power forgotten relics with a magic staff. The release date for OMNO is tentatively in March or April of 2021. The game will be available on Steam.

3 Crash Bandicoot: On the Run - TBA

Iconic villains are being dispatched across the multiverse in Crash Bandicoot: On the Run. As a result, players have to take on the role of Crash, and his sister Coco, to send them back to their dimensions. The mobile adventure, allows players to dash through multiple areas and take on a variety of classic franchise enemies.

With the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time earlier this month, on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, On the Run brings the time-traveling adventure to mobile. Developed by King, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run will be available on IOS and Google Play, a release date has not been announced.

2 Pumpkin Jack - October 23rd, 2020

This spooky 3D platformer lets players take on the role of Jack, the mythical pumpkin lord. Developed by Nicolas Meyssonnier, Pumpkin Jack is a classic 3D platformer in every way. Inspired by games such as MediEvil and Jak & Daxter, players will defend the forces of evil from a mighty wizard.

Subsequently, each level features vibrant color pallets and alluring atmospheres. Along with a variety of puzzles, enemies, and helpful companions.  Above all players will have to master combos, dodging, and timing to stay alive. Pumpkin Jack will be released on October 23rd of this year and will be available on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

1 Floppy & the Sleepy Planet - TBA

Discover the mysteries of a forgotten planet in Floppy & the Sleepy Planet. Help the robotic bunny and his companion Kara bring the planet back to its former beauty. The family-friendly 3D third-person platformer game differs from others in the genre with a non-violent approach. That is to say, players will solve puzzles and complete challenges to guide Floppy through the world.

As players progress and uncover the many secrets in the world, they can also customize Floppy with hats and other cosmetic decals. Floppy & the Sleepy Planet is developed by Broad Strokes. The game is still currently in development, and an official release date is still to be announced.
