10 Terry Bogard - Garou: Mark of the Wolves

Terry Bogard, the protagonist of Fatal Fury, entered a fighting tournament to exact revenge on his father's killer. Even though Terry defeated Geese Howard, he still attempted to save him before Geese swatted his hand away to laugh till his dying fall. As Geese left behind a son, Terry felt guilty for his actions and took the boy in.

In Garou: Mark of the Wolves, time passes and young Rock Howard becomes an adult and enters the tournament himself. Wanting to understand the blood that courses through him, he enters a fighting tournament as well as battles his father, Terry. Various endings and showcase Terry bonding with Garou like a true father and son. All this happened while Terry gave Rock the life Geese would never have given him.

9 Ness' Father - EarthBound

Initially introduced as a mercenary, Kratos' job in Tales of Symphonia is to guide The Chosen on her pilgrimage and protect her till the end. Later, he reveals himself as a member of the enemy group, Cruxis, and turns on the party. However, despite his seemingly violent actions, Kratos secretly wants to avenge his late wife, meet his son, destroy Cruxis, and atone for his past.

The game reveals Kratos to be the father of protagonist Lloyd Irving. When the truth becomes clear, Kratos challenges Lloyd to one more duel. His goal was only for Lloyd to become strong enough to save the world. However, in a turn of events, should the player choose to bond with Kratos in the snowy town of Flanoir, Kratos will join in Zelos' stead. Kratos is the biological father of Lloyd despite the latter being raised by the dwarf, Dirk. Both paid a major role in Lloyd's strength of character and his upbringing.

7 Rost - Horizon: Zero Dawn

An outcast of the Nora tribe, Rost adopted the young girl, Aloy, as his own daughter. While the two endured great hardship by the Nora, they had each other. Rost taught Aloy how to hunt, survive on her own, and eventually train for the trials in order to be recognized.

Later, the Nora tribe is invaded by an enemy tribe. Leaving bodies in their wake, Aloy is the sole survivor of the invasion. Her life was spared only thanks to Rost's noble sacrifice. Thus begins Aloy's adventure to find the answers to his death in Horizon: Zero Dawn.

6 Sojiro Sakura - Persona 5

Similar to Dojima, Sojiro takes in the protagonist of Persona 5. The young exchange student starts the game off getting branded with a criminal record. Released on probation, this causes dire issues for the old man who threatens to kick him out. Despite this, Sojiro offers to teach the protagonist how to make coffee and curry. Both items play a role in healing SP in the game's dungeons.

The game later introduces Futaba, Sojiro's adopted daughter, as well as their strained relationship. The protagonist spends a year in Inaba, Japan as an exchange student. Taken in by his uncle Dojima, this kindhearted cop introduces himself and his daughter before taking you to your new home for the year. While he spends much time away from home at work, you can rank up Dojima and his daughter, Nanako, to strengthen your relationship with them.

The social link reveals Dojima feels guilt over his wife's passing. He spends too much time at work to notice Nanako until some bitter family conversations began pushing them apart before pulling them back together. Whether he's giving you an allowance for doing well on your exams, helping you garden, or leaving food in the fridge for you, Dojima comes through for Nanako and the protagonist throughout the game.

3 Bowser - Super Mario

Bowser Jr. wasn't introduced into the Mario series until 2002's Super Mario Sunshine. While the story involved Bowser kidnapping Peach in order to give Bowser Jr. a mama, their relationship seldom touched upon more familial roles. Even when Bowser was left for "dead" in New Super Mario Bros., his young son took his bones and brought him back to life.

When the truth reveals itself, Apollo feels nothing but emptiness and sadness as he seeks to avenge the father he loved. This sets forth the final battle in the second Ace Attorney trilogy.

1 Kazuma Kiryu - Yakuza

The Dragon Among Daddies himself. Kazuma Kiryu spent 10 years in prison covering as the convicted murderer of the Tojo Clan patriarch. After prison, he met the woman he loved once more as well as her young daughter. Tragedy would strike as she would die while leaving the young girl behind.
