Welcome to Game Rant Minute — a series of short videos covering one hot topic in games. Each video lasts just about one minute, so you can get in, get out and get back to reading more in-depth coverage here on the site or back to playing your games. Of course each Game Rant Minute video is accompanied by some helpful text where you can get more details on the topic covered in the Minute.

With San Diego Comic Con only one week away, we are reminded again just how much game companies seem to like making announcements about… making announcements.

Leading up to almost every major trade show or convention, a series of press releases come out from companies big and small saying that they are going to be making a big announcement at said trade show/convention. One of the more recent examples of this is Capcom announcing that they will be announcing fantastic Marvel vs. Capcom 3 news at Comic Con. Capcom however, is not the first nor will be they be the last to make the pre-announcement announcement. Hopefully we can figure out a way to get this practice to stop… or at least decrease.

There has to be a better way. The reason behind the announcement-of-an-announcement announcement is easy enough to see; companies want fans to be excited about their product and consumers to be aware of it. They can also serve the purpose of letting gamers know where and when to find news, like Apple announcing the dates for its WWDC. So while some amount of pre-announcement announcements are OK and will likely be around forever, the pre-trade show announcements of announcements should be the first to go. We know you will be at E3/GDC/Comic-Con or whatever and we know announcements are made at these events… we get it. Right?!?

Regardless, it should be noted that we will be announcing something big in an upcoming Game Rant Minute. Well, we will actually be giving the full details about the announcement we are going to make in an upcoming announcement about that announcement. So be sure to keep an eye open for our upcoming pre-announcement covering our pre-announcement of a pre-announcement-announcement.

What are your thoughts? Do you the pre-announcement announcement work or do they annoy you? Let us know your feelings in the comments below. And if you have a subject you want addressed in a Game Rant Minute, leave it as a comment below and we will do our best to cover everything we can.
