There are many players who will be able to immediately take to the game, and be able to pick up and play. However, there are still many players who might not be able to play it as easily as others and may need to know of some mistakes that many players make.

7 Expanding Too Fast

Victoria 3 - Budget

It may sound tempting at first to start expanding the player's empire, regardless of the resources that a player has to use. After all, with more land, the player can gather up more resources, right?

This is not something that a player should follow in their mindset. However, if a player starts off in a good position to conquer through neighbors (whether that is through conquering their lands or forming an alliance with them), it would be a good idea for a player of Victoria 3 to start expanding - but not too quickly.

6 Being Afraid of Debt

Victoria 3 - Tech Tree

A lot of players who have played real-time strategy or other city-building games may be afraid to go into debt, due to the fact that it is something that a player has to pay off and has to stress about. However, in the game Victoria 3, going into debt is not really that bad of a fate to deal with.

Surprisingly, a player can actually fill up their gold reserves, as well. It would be best for the player to keep spending the gold as it rolls in instead of hoarding it all away, on top of being able to borrow from other nearby populations.

5 Not Thinking Through Research

Victoria 3 - Stats

A player can start researching all sorts of things - such as new methods of producing new goods, or ways to build quicker and cheaper. However, the tree of things to research in Victoria 3 is huge, and it is easy for a player to get lost or confused.

There are going to be a lot of materials that a player will have to put into their research, as well. If a player cannot immediately afford a certain point to research, it would be best to hold off on it.

4 Not Learning About Pops or Goods

Victoria 3 - Pen

Pops are going to be something that a player of the game Victoria 3 must learn about if they want to succeed. Essentially, Pops is short for population, and they all act as a representation of the people who live in the player's nation.

However, Goods are also essential for a player's gameplay, as they are what keep the Pops going for a while. It would be crucial for a player to understand both Pops and Goods, otherwise, there will be catastrophic failures within their gameplay.

3 Trying to Play the Market Fairly

Victoria 3 - Mapping Out

One of the main perks of the Victoria 3 gameplay is the economy that the game touts as being as realistic as possible. As such, there are going to be many players who want to at least try to play the market fairly, which would not be beneficial for a player.

A player should absolutely manipulate the market at any point possible in order to make more money. This can be done by messing with the supply and demand of certain resources and goods, or by plummeting the worth of resources the neighboring factions use, and so on.

2 Manually Upgrading Resource Buildings

Victoria 3 - Map

There are going to be all sorts of resource buildings that a player is going to build and acquire during their time playing the game Victoria 3. They will be able to upgrade these buildings are certain points, in order to produce more goods for their nation.

One mistake that many players make is forgetting to set these buildings to automatically upgrade at first, to ensure that they can get more resources. However, as more resource buildings unlock, it would be a good idea for a player to start manually upgrading their buildings, to ensure they do not expand too quickly.

1 Not Learning About Politics

Victoria 3 - Choice

The Politics section is incredibly important for a player to worry about - in fact, it may be one of the most important parts of any country in the game Victoria 3. All 3 types of Politics (Government, Laws, and Institutions) are going to be important for a player to learn and understand.

A player wants to ensure that they stay as legitimate as possible in the game. If it drops to zero, there will not be anything a player changes about their Government. However, a player can manipulate all sorts of Interest Groups in their favor to boost Legitimacy.

Victoria 3 is available on macOS, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems.
