Fans got a slight update on when they can expect Tom Hardy's Venom 3 to roll around. Sony producer Amy Pascal has spoken about the upcoming Venom movie, noting that the focus right now is on Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The most interesting thing here though is the fact that a Sony representative is the one to bring up a Disney-co-produced Spider-Man film as the main focus. For those who remember, Disney and Sony had a very long dispute over the screen rights to the character until they reached a new agreement to co-produce more MCU Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland.
Speaking to Collider, Sony exec Pascal said, "We are in the planning stages right now but what we are focused on is getting everybody to come and see No Way Home." She also followed up by saying that it's way too early to speak about what to expect from a third Venom film. The recently release Venom: Let There Be Carnage set the stage up for many different possibilities for another film, which many see as the symbiote named Toxin, who was teased through the character Detective Mulligan. Another possible storyline is the inevitable meetup between Hardy's Venom and Holland's Spider-Man.
Another interesting note to add is that Andy Serkis has spoken to Metro about whether or not he'll return to direct the third Venom film. "I mean, yeah, of course. It’s such a wonderful world to play in. And I’m sure there will be, I’m sure there will be," he said of the possibility of there being plans for another Venom film on his resume. "Well, hopefully…. I don’t want to count our chickens. But yeah, of course. It was such a fun world to play in." This is very good news because many believe the director was able to improve upon the already solid foundation that was in place from the first film.
Now it seems like Sony and Marvel Studios are in an even better place, as they're starting to combine the two properties by having Sony's villains make their way into the world of the Disney-owned MCU. For instance, Michael Keaton is reportedly filming more Vulture scenes for his appearance in the Morbius film.
Since it's clear that Venom is getting another sequel, it means that the film had to have met some of the standards the company had for the franchise's second theatrical outing. At one point it wasn't clear if it would even do half of what the first did in terms of box office revenue due to the lower number of people at theaters, but Venom 2 ended up performing relatively well.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now available on Blu-Ray and digital.
