Venom: Let There Be Carnage actor Woody Harrelson recently talked about the duality of playing both Carnage/Cletus Kasady in the upcoming sequel. However, it appears there was one aspect of playing Carnage that Harrelson felt was more suited for director Andy Serkis.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be a sequel to Sony's 2018 Venom supervillain film, which starred Tom Hardy as both Eddie Brock and the voice of the titular symbiote. So when it came time to film the sequel, Harrelson was asked to do the same thing for his role as Kasady and Carnage.

At first, Harrelson wanted Serkis to do the voice of Carnage, thinking that it wouldn't be easily discernable for either fans or critics. However, the director encouraged the actor to step up to the challenge and provide the voice for the scarlet symbiote, which is an iconic and frightening voice from Marvel comics. When speaking to ComicBook.Com about playing the iconic Marvel Comics serial killer, Harrelson said, "It's wild, because, in a way, you're playing two characters in one. So there was a lot of discussion about the voice and also discussions with Tom, but obviously with Andy [Serkis], who directed it. And I just kept messing with the voice, and I was thinking to myself, 'Who's going to know the difference if Andy Serkis did the voice. [He's] a master of voices? Why don't you do it, Andy?' And no, he was insistent that I do it, but I really...I like how it turned out. Obviously, effects are put on the voice, but I really like how it all turned out."

Serkis has directed a couple of films before, but he is mostly known for playing a lot of roles through motion capture such as King Kong, Gollum (Lord of the Rings), and Caesar (Planet of the Apes), to name a few. So the actor definitely knows a thing or two when it comes to bringing foreign creatures to life, which may be why Harrelson considered asking Serkis to do the voice for Carnage.

Now Serkis is taking a step back and sitting behind the camera as the director for the upcoming supervillain movie, where motion capture, VFX, and CGI are going to be heavily featured. Here's to hoping that the characters, fight scenes, and movie all turn out well now that they have a director with experience calling the shots.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be in theaters on October 1st, 2021.
