Venom: Let There Be Carnage has surpassed the $400 million mark at the global box office, which fans and creators alike weren't sure would happen. The box office success of the Sony sequel proves the Venom character is popular with audiences.

Sony's Venom 2 over-performed at the box office despite it releasing exclusively in theaters and not on a streaming service at the same time, as was the case with many tentpole projects during the pandemic. The film also did well at debuting the villainous Carnage in a live-action film. Venom 2 also had a post-credits scene that teased a very cool outcome for fans of the Marvel universe.

At the time news of this box office milestone broke, Venom 2's $404.1 million worldwide gross came from the film's $191.6 million in the U.S. combined with its $212.5 million international total. This is an especially impressive feat considering we are still technically in the "Pandemic Era" and the film had yet to secure a China release date. Venom: Let There Be Carnage hasn't topped the first film as of yet, but it's nearing the halfway mark. The first Venom film made around $856 million, so this film will have a long way to go if it hopes to beat its predecessor.

Venom 2 Kevin Feige

Venom 2 took a lot of coordination with Disney for a few of the scenes teased. Kevin Feige recently weighed in on how much was required to bring the post-credits scene together. With Feige's involvement, it looks like fans will be seeing more of their favorite symbiote in the future. The character has become a popular icon among fans and newcomers alike, so now all that's left is for the big showdown between him and Spider-Man. Sony also has a Morbius film on the way, which will debut another Spider-Man villain into the world of Marvel. The trailer also teased Michael Keaton's Vulture, which implies that the Sony and Marvel Cinematic Universe will be linked together.

Seeing Morbius in the MCU would be really cool, especially if he comes into contact with Mahershala Ali's Blade. In the comics, Blade is a skilled vampire hunter, which would make him the perfect foe for Jared Leto's Living Vampire character. Venom will supposedly get another film, but what this means for the future of the MCU and Sony's Spider-Man universe is still unclear.

Fans will have to wait to see how all of this unravels, but since Venom 2 has surpassed expectations, this will not be the last they see of the titular symbiote. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the next film featuring a Spider-Man character, and it's expected to give fans more insight into how the worlds of Sony and the MCU will collide.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently available in theaters.
