A Spider-Man and Venom MCU crossover is long overdue, especially since a copy of The Daily Bugle was spotted in Let There Be Carnage's trailer. However, a new possible leak suggests the newspaper’s famed editor J. Jonah Jameson could also be showing up in Sony's Venom sequel.

Even from the beginnings of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, it was obvious Simmons was perfect to play J. Jonah Jameson. Since Peter Parker and Eddie Brock have at times worked for the same man, Simmons could be fortunate enough to appear in every Spider-Man film universe there is. Considering the way Spider-Man: Far From Home ended, Simmons’ return for No Way Home even seems all but confirmed and it appears the MCU film won't be the only project where fans can expect to see his surly character.

Recently, Twitter user @knight99_death cleverly spotted Simmons’ name on the movie listing posted on the site for British cinema chain Vue, which just happened to be sitting there alongside the rest of Venom: Let There Be Carnage's stars. This great find was shared by the @spidermanworrld account, where the posted image shows Simmons and his acting credits named alongside Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) and Naomie Harris (Shriek).

At the time of writing, Vue’s site still contains the safe info that was posted in the tweet, sending Spider-Man and Venom fans into a J. Jonah Jameson type of screaming frenzy over the potential ramifications this could have for the MCU. Regardless of that, Venom 2 director Andy Serkis has stated in the past that Let There Be Carnage does not take place in the same universe as Marvel Studios’ MCU.

In case Simmons does achieve the Spider-Verse trifecta, it will be more interesting to speculate on what kind of J. Jonah Jameson he’ll be this time around, as both his newspaper editor flat top-rocking version and his MCU balding Infowars variants each have their unique charm. As if that wasn’t enough, Tom Hardy is rumored to appear in Morbius alongside Michael Keaton, so producers and screenwriters are clearly having a Spidey-themed field day.

In any case, anyone excited over the prospect of seeing Simmons in Venom: Let There Be Carnage will have to wait just a little bit longer given the film's recent delay. If this news proves to be nothing more than an honest mistake from the British company, it’s not as if Simmons will be out of work since his Commissioner Gordon has been given the green light to return in Batgirl over at DC’s camp.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will premiere in theaters on October 15, 2021.
