Vanquish looks like a game that plans on throwing a lot at its players. From everything we have seen the game boasts a wide array of visual stimuli making it feel fresh despite its very obvious Gears of War-esque roots.

For those who are neglecting developer Platinum Games’ proclivity for delivering solid games that give a fresh take on stale genres and are still on the fence about the game they will be able to get their hands on a piece of it very soon. On September 2nd, owners of either a PS3 or Xbox 360 will be able to try out one prequel level and fight one boss in demo form. The demo will also allow players to try out the game’s casual mode that gives those who need it an added boost by way of auto-aim.

If that isn’t enough of an amuse-bouche for players, at next month’s Tokyo Game Show an additional set of levels will be available for demo complete with a cameo by a “surprising character". No word is available yet on who this might be but my hope is on either Bayonetta or MadWorld’s Jack Cayman, but those might take away from the game’s serious tone.

Getting gamers excited about Vanquish is going to be an uphill battle for Platinum Games. Based on all we have seen so far the game doesn’t bring anything new to the cover-based shooter genre that Gears of War or any other game of that ilk hasn’t already perfected. Really the only thing the game has going for it is Platinum Games’ ability to make gamers scratch their head with the “WTF” face.

We have already been denied a chance to rocket slide our friends in the face online so what is keeping us from turning up our noses at Vanquish. Maybe Tokyo Game Show will make a believer out of me, but for now color me uninterested.

Are you looking forward to checking out this demo, Ranters, or is Vanquish not doing anything for you? Let us know in the comments below.
