About a month ago, Focus Home Interactive and Dontnod Entertainment began a making-of series for the forthcoming action role-playing game, Vampyr, with the companies offering fans a peek behind the curtain that afforded some insights into the title's development process. Now, the publisher and developer have released the final episode of the mini web series that officially confirms the forthcoming game's release date as June 5, 2018.

As seen below in episode 4 of the Dontnod Presents Vampyr series, the developer explains why video games are so much more unique when compared to other mediums used for storytelling, with the company detailing how it approaches narrative craft. The game's Narrative Director Stéphane Beauverger explains that the player is often occupied with the gameplay systems in Vampyr, with such aspects as exploration, investigations, citizen encounters, combat, and more all being inextricably linked to the title's narrative structure.

For those unaware of Vampyr's premise, the action-RPG uses London, 1918 as its backdrop, with fans assuming the role of Jonathan Reid – a doctor turned vampire who must choose whether or not to feed on the game's NPCs to increase his own strength. Should one choose to embrace their inner shadow, Reid will hear the dying thoughts of the civilian they choose to kill, encouraging players to think of the citizens as more than just sustenance.

Taking all of this into account, with Dontnod Entertainment and Focus Home Interactive having finally confirmed Vampyr's release date, it's safe to presume that hype will only increase for what is already one of the most highly anticipated horror games of 2018. And considering the fact that the studio behind the teen drama Life is Strange is tackling such different subject matter with Vampyr, it will be interesting to see how the change of pace for Dontnod's storytelling abilities plays out.

Vampyr is slated for release on June 6, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
