It’s almost Halloween, and it seems that the games industry is getting into the spirit. Free horror games are being offered up on multiple platforms, along with plenty of discounts for other games that fit into the genre. Those that are picking up or returning to the gothic horror game Vampyr will have an extra reason to be excited, too, as the game has officially received a PS5 and Xbox Series X update.
Announced on Twitter, the new update ups the Vampyr’s resolution up to 1440p at 60 FPS. There are a few stipulations, though. While the Xbox Series S version of the game also supports 1440p, the game will only run at 30 FPS. Additionally, while there is also support for the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, both versions will only run at 30 FPS. However, the Xbox One X only runs at a resolution of 1296p instead of 1440p.
While it isn’t quite as sharp as 4K, the 1440p update should still be a nice new coat of paint for the game. Plus, the upgrade to 60 FPS will have a much greater impact on gameplay, especially considering the type of hack-and-slash combat at play in Vampyr. If anything, that’s the change to look forward to the most.
Next-gen updates are becoming more common, though, Vampyr does come as a pretty big surprise. The game is a few years at this point, and while it was well-received, the new update still feels a little out of the left field. That’s not a bad thing, though, as free performance updates are always a positive.
The update has officially been sent to all platforms according to a follow-up tweet, so those interested in the game can give it a try now. Vampyr is considered by some to be one of the best action-horror games of the last few years, allowing players to pick and choose which characters to drain of blood for power and carve something of their own story.
The updates come alongside the announcement that Dying Light is getting a PS5 and Xbox Series X update. While no specific date has been given for that update, it still marks two horror games getting updates in time for Halloween, which has set a solid tone for fans of the genre this year. Plus, there’s also Dark Pictures: House of Ashes out now, so horror fans shouldn’t be lacking anything spooky to play.
