New Vampyr E3 Trailer Leaked

A trailer for Vampyr, the upcoming game from Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment, leaks online ahead of E3, showing off the title’s main character and action combat.

A trailer has appeared online for Dontnod Entertainment’s Vampyr ahead of E3 2016. The video, uploaded to Daily Motion, has a URL that implies it was meant to debut during Monday’s PC Gaming Show. Gamers last heard about the title a few months ago when Dontnod released the game’s first screenshots.

The trailer, which comes in a little under two minutes long, is narrated by the game’s main protagonist, Jonathan E. Reid, a vampire doctor whose thirst for blood compels him to kill innocent people. “Science has failed us,” Reid says, explaining that a flu epidemic has killed thousands in London. Vampyr takes place in early 20th century Great Britain when a lethal Spanish flu wreaked havoc on the population.

Reid talks about his need to feast on blood every night in order to appease the hunger inside him, but it would appear that all of those late night snacks are attracting the attention of some vampire hunters. The trailer shows Reid using swords and supernatural abilities to take out the men who have come to kill him. Vampyr  is an action role-playing game that looks like it will be heavy on violence and gore.

The visuals have a gothic feel and are on par with what you might expect 1918 Great Britain to look like. Dontnod conducted research for the title by sending a team to London to take photographs of the city’s various districts, and the end result is an overall vibe similar to 2015’s 1886: The Order, a game that was set in Victorian England.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the trailer is what Dr. Vampire says at the very end. “I have few allies, and even fewer options,” Reid begins. “It’s a war, and I have to fight to survive. My life has become a waking nightmare. I did not choose the thing I’ve become, but I can choose the lives I take.”

The final shot of the video shows Reid gazing at multiple innocent people, presumably to decide which one he’s going to kill in order to get the blood he needs to make it through the night. Vampyr will be following in the footsteps of other Dontnod titles like Life is Strange and Remember Me by making decision-making a key part of the gameplay.

Vampyr will release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017. It’s possible a more concrete date could be revealed during Monday’s PC Gaming Show.
