The version 1.0 release of Vampire Survivors is finally out, and with it comes some new additions to the game. Most notable is the addition of Inverse Mode and Endless Mode. Inverse Mode makes enemies stronger and increases the amount of gold the player receives.

Endless Mode also makes the game harder, but in a different way than Inverse Mode. The Reaper never appears, and enemies will get continuously become stronger. This mode is a great challenge for long-time players who feel that Vampire Survivors had become too easy after purchasing all the power-ups and unlocking all the weapons and characters.

Unlocking Endless Mode

Selecting Endless Mode in Vampire Survivors

The final stage, Eudaimonia Machine, must be unlocked first before a player can unlock Endless Mode. This requires the player to collect every relic except Gracia's Mirror and Seventh Trumpet. This will take beginning players a few hours to accomplish. Many of these relics can be found in specific stages. Collecting some of the relics is more involved; like the Mindbender, which requires filling at least 50 entries in the collection. In total, there are eleven relics that need to be collected to make Eudaimonia Machine available. These are:

  • Grim Grimoire - Located in Inlaid Library
  • Ars Gouda - Located in Dairy Plant
  • Milky Way Map - Located in Dairy Plant
  • Magic Banger - Located in Green Acres
  • Sorceress' Tears - Located in Gallo Tower
  • Glass Vizard - Located in Moongolow
  • Mindbender - 50 Entries In The Collection
  • Yellow Sign - Located in Holy Forbidden
  • Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane - Locate in Bone Zone
  • Great Gospel - Located in Cappella Magna
  • Randomazzo - Located in Gallo Tower

Eudaimonia Machine

Encountering the Mysterious Entity in Vampire Survivors

Once all the relics are collected, this stage is made available on the stage select screen. When first visiting Eudaimonia Machine the player will encounter a Mysterious Entity that resembles a shadowy tree with hands. Walking into this entity will cause an interaction. At first, there will be several text boxes with garbled text, followed by a question.

The player is asked if their experience has been "Too Hard" or "Too Easy". Selecting "Too Hard" gives the player the Seventh Trumpet relic and unlocks Endless Mode. At this time the player is sent to the title screen, which will have the background images removed. When the player enters the stage select screen there is now a box at the bottom where Endless Mode can be activated for a run.

Playing In Endless Mode

Divano in Mad Forest in Vampire Survivors

Endless Mode is exactly what it sounds like. After the clock reaches the 30-minute mark it resets back to zero, completing one cycle. The enemies appear normally, but continue to get stronger. Each cycle through the stage increases enemy health by 100%, damage by 25%, and the amount by 50%. Also, the player's max damage decreases by one for each cycle.

The merchant will also re-appear each cycle; however, instead of Golden Eggs, the player can purchase extra Revives. Players might think that eventually, the difficulty will get too hard to continue in Endless Mode, but limit-breaking weapons help keep the player's damage in line with enemy strength – to a point, anyway.

Vampire Survivors was released on December 17th, 2021, for the PC and macOS.
