Redfall is Arkane's hotly-anticipated co-op vampire shooter, an unholy hybrid many fans of horror and multiplayer games alike are eager to sink their teeth into. There have been plenty of other vampire-themed games, however, spanning a variety of genres.

Redfall's premise will remind many gamers of Left 4 Dead, but it's also inheriting the legacy of some other great vampire games. Here are just five of the vampire games Arkane fans can play while waiting for Redfall to hit the shelves.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

When looking for good vampire games there's no better place to start than Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. An RPG in the style of games like Deus Ex: Human RevolutionVampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines takes place in an alternate version of early 21st century Los Angeles. The player awakens as a recently revived vampire, and from there is free to explore the world and become embroiled in a conspiracy that puts the future of their newfound kin at risk. The game's graphics may not stand the test of time, but its storytelling certainly does, and any RPG fan would be amiss not to give the game a shot before its long-anticipated sequel.

Vampyr

Vampyr is a far more recent entry in the genre. Released in 2018, it follows Jonathan Reid, a doctor-turned-bloodsucker living in London after the first World War. It's possible to uphold Reid's commitment to the Hippocratic Oath all the way through the game, at the cost of leveling up, making this another interesting RPG entry to the vampire genre. Its combat may not be the best in the business, but Vampyr is great for anyone who loves their games to come with tough moral quandaries, impressive open worlds, and a gothic art style.

The Witcher 3: Blood And Wine

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine may be an expansion, but with more than 20 hours of content it's one of the best vampire games out there in its own right. Monster-hunter extraordinaire Geralt of Rivia travels to the France-inspired Duchy of Toussaint, one of CD Projekt Red's most stunningly beautiful in-game worlds. There, he unravels the mystery of a vampiric serial killer known only as The Beast of Beauclair. Despite being a vampire-themed game, the expansion has a great variety of monsters and settings, with the fairy-tale Land of a Thousand Fables standing out as a highlight.

Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon

Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 2

Fans of 2D vampire-themed platformers like Castlevania will likely find Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon and its sequel some of the best recent additions to the genre. Between fantastic boss-fights and impressive pixel art, Bloodstained is a top-notch retro indie game. Unlike Castlevania, it even has multiple playable characters with a variety of powers, and with former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi behind the wheel it's a great spiritual successor to the original platformers.

The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing

For fans of games like Diablo, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing sees the son of the famous vampire hunter take down horrifying eldritch beings across the fictional Eastern European kingdom of Borgovia. The game has a great sense of style, with tongue-in-cheek anachronisms and creatures blending elements of traditional horror and steampunk. Fans of the first game are in luck because two sequels were released in 2014 and 2015 as well.

These are far from the only vampire games on the market. Titles like Legacy of Kain and Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC scratch the surface of a genre that spans across many different kinds of gameplay. Whether or not Redfall can rise through the ranks and be remembered among the best vampire games remains to be seen.

Redfall releases in summer 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
