Valve has announced an exciting competition, in which one lucky participants will be in with a chance of receiving a Steam Deck during The Game Awards 2022. The best part about this is there will be one device given away every minute. With Valve now possibly working on a new VR controller, the Half-Life and Portal developer is evidently looking to make more of an impact on the hardware market after the current success of its portable gaming machine, and anyone who doesn't have one yet will soon have an opportunity to win one.
Given how many popular games are compatible with the Steam Deck, not to mention the versatility of the system, it's not surprising that it's been such a smash hit in the gaming community since it launched earlier this year. While the company has not been quite so lucky with past non-software endeavors, Gabe Newell and his team have evidently struck gold with the Deck, with the device selling extremely well in the west. And with it soon coming to parts of Asia, the Valve handheld powerhouse is likely to see an increase in popularity.
Until then, there's the upcoming competition, which is being held alongside this year's The Game Awards. In a recent post on Steam, Valve says it will be giving away one Steam Deck every minute, with registrations now open for anyone who wants to take part. There are a couple of conditions that need to be met though, such as needing to be from the US, UK, Canada, or an EU country. Entrants will also need to have purchased a game through Steam between November 14, 2021, and November 14, 2022. Further information shows that the giveaway will commence at the start of the Game Awards and will go on for approximately two and half hours. Full details about provisos and entering can be found via the link at the bottom of this article.
The Game Awards 2022 will begin on December 8 at 5PM PST and will be livestreamed on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and other social media/video sites. The event will recognize excellence in video games for the year across a number of categories, including Best Art Direction, Best VR, Best Debut Indie, Best Audio Design, and, of course, Game of the Year.
As for the Valve device itself, as mentioned above, the Steam Deck will be shipping to parts of Asia from December 17. Anyone from Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, or Taiwan who has pre-ordered a Steam Deck can expect to receive an email from December 1 asking them to finalize the purchase.
