Valve Says They Are Not Done with 'Half-Life' Hero Gordon Freeman

Valve Not Done With Gordon Freeman

Gamers have been clamoring for the return of Half Life’s Gordon Freeman for years now, and though developer Valve has put most of their attention towards the upcoming release of Portal 2, they have confirmed they are not done with Mr. Freeman.

In an interview mostly on the tech that Valve has instituted over the years, the developer revealed some very interesting pieces of information, including that they approached Microsoft with the same cross platform opportunity that the PS3 version of Portal offers.

While hearing about Valve’s very exciting new applications of Steam and how they approach the video game industry is all well and good, it’s hard to escape the big elephant in the room: Half-Life. Ever since Half-Life 2: Episode 2 shipped with The Orange Box (which ironically contained the first Portal), gamers have been expecting the announcement of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 — anything that would help explain where the storyline is headed after a major cliffhanger ending.

Much like Game Rant was able to with their interview with Valve writer Erik Wolpaw, AusGamers was able to get one quick Half-Life question in when interviewing Valve’s PR Head Doug Lombardi, and his response at least keeps hope alive.

"You will ever see [more Half-Life], yes. We are not done with Gordon Freeman’s adventures. I have nothing other than that to tell you today, but hang in there with us."

Valve has proven themselves to be a company that waits on a project, and are no strangers to delaying their surprises, making sure it is just right. Although we expect that is the case with the next Half-Life, that doesn’t change the fact that tons of gamers want to get their hands on it immediately.

Perhaps since Portal 2 launches before the summer, Valve can move away from that marketing campaign and announce the next Gordon Freeman adventure at this year’s E3. Only the event will confirm or deny that idea, so stick tuned to Game Rant for all the coverage on any Valve and Half-Life related news coming out of E3.

Do you think that 2011 is the year Valve finally unveils the next Half-Life? Do you think the PS3 and Steam are the perfect marriage or can you see it also being linked to the Xbox 360?
