Valve has officially announced a release date for Steam for Macs, coming May 12, 2010. It was no surprise when Valve announced that they would be bringing the extremely popular Steam gaming platform to Mac computers back in March. With Apple continuing to gain momentum with every little thing they do, it was only a matter of time before they fought back against the claims that Macs aren't gaming machines.

While Mac users have had access to parallel desktops and separate partitions for gaming over the years, the announcement of Steam on Mac has made this process all the more easier. Now, instead of having to sacrifice your computer's power through parallels or having to take the time to switch partitions, you will be able to immediately jump into your favorite Valve games with little to no effort.

Now, we have an official release date for Steam on Mac. According to Valve, it will be available to the public on May 12, 2010. They've promised more details to come in the very near future, so we'll have the details as they surface. As far as games go, you can expect to be playing Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series when Steam on Mac launches.

How do you feel about gaming on Mac? Will you be making use of this new gaming platform or will you continue to use the PC version of Steam?
