Valorant may have quieted down since its massive launch earlier this year, but the tactical and team-oriented shooter from Riot Games is still one of the success stories of 2020. The game is continuing to be supported, and now fans can look forward to public test servers in the near future for Valorant.

Developer Riot Games posts a series on its website called "Ask Valorant," a question and answer article that tackles inquiries from fans. In the 10th version of this segment, posted recently, one of the questions that was posed was the idea of test servers. The answer is, yes, test servers are on the way for the CS:GO meets Overwatch tactical shooter.

Beginning in 2021, sometime in the first half of the year, the test server will go live and players can look forward to using it to try out new ideas and game-tweaks for the well-received Valorant, just like in League of Legends. According to the post, "specific features/queues will be advertised or limited and patches will be targeted for a certain length of time in advance of going live." Test servers have been requested since early on in the process, so it is exciting to hear that Riot Games is providing this soon.

Test servers are a great way to introduce new features or balance changes in an online game. Sometimes a drastic buff or a new character can mix up the gameplay in unintended ways, and if that goes live in the full-game, the experience can be sloppy. Being able to test big updates, like update 1.10 in Valorant that just went live, allows fans to give feedback to said changes, and the developer can tinker with them before they are played across all modes and for all players.

Valorant is available now for PC.
