Valorant, the tactical team shooter released by Riot Games in 2020, revealed a new agent named Neon on January 7. Like a lot of other agents released for the game, Valorant players have looked into her kit to find out what makes this new character tick. What they found was something that might break the game.

Early playtesters have been experimenting with the agent, and some Valorant players have found her lightning-fast speed to be too much for a game that focuses on precision and positioning. In a clip that Team Liquid streamer AverageJonas posted to Twitter, he shows off how Neon's sprint ability can lead to an unexpected speed boost when paired with Sage's wall ability. In a reply to that post, he even has the point of view from the player he uses the exploit on.

It's not just that exploit, though. In another clip posted by Reddit user mainady, he is able to chase down the agent Yoru whose ultimate ability is to run faster, as well as be invulnerable and invisible so long as he isn't in close proximity to an enemy agent. Using Neon's sprint ability, mainady is able to chase down the enemy Yoru and kill him. For one character's regular ability to be as good as another character's ultimate is generally considered broken by most players in competitive games.

It isn't unheard of for new Valorant agents to be considered broken at launch. A lot of players complained about the Valorant agent Killjoy when she was first revealed. Riot developer, Ryan 'rycoux' Cousart, has said that the wall sliding exploit shown off in the aforementioned AverageJonas clip will be getting patched out, and there are still changes Riot can make to the character while the agent is in beta.

There is no need for Valorant players to panic just yet. The thing about competitive games is that they are always being patched. Even if Neon isn't considered perfect on release, there are always patches that can come afterward if players still have issues with her in the future. The best competitive players can always find a way to work around characters that are considered broken.

Of course, there is always the chance for Riot to keep a character unbalanced. Some players have been asking Riot to take a look at changing the Valorant agent Jett after she has been considered a staple in the meta for the last year. New characters in competitive games always have an opportunity to shake up the meta, and maybe Neon can be a change the game needs.

Valorant is out now for PC, and Riot has announced plans for a mobile version to be released sometime in the future.
