Currently in the closed beta, Valorant has ten different characters to choose from. All of these characters fit into one of four roles: Duelist, Sentinel, Initiator, and Controller. While each character plays drastically different, they still each accomplish the basic function(s) of their role. (Or should, in the right hands)

Let's take a look at one of the characters that created the most stir back when the Valorant closed beta first began: Raze. She's since been nerfed, but she is still a perfectly viable character to choose and can be a force of nature in the right hands:

10 BLAST PACK

One of Raze's abilities, Blast Pack, is one of the most interesting and versatile abilities in the entire game. Blast Pack, in essence, functions like C4 in other games; you toss it, you blow it up, it hurts enemies. But in Valorant, Raze can't be damaged by her own Blast Packs. Instead, they launch her into the air, making for a ton of creative uses and a high skill ceiling.

9 PAINT SHELLS

The ability that drew the bulk of the ire Raze's way back before the nerf, Paint Shells, is a cluster bomb; it explodes in an initial radius, dealing damage to the unfortunate souls caught in the blast, but then scatters out four smaller explosions, all but ensuring the demise of the unlucky enough to have been in the center of the blast to begin with.

While this isn't usually going to completely eviscerate enemies outright, those that are already hurt are going to need to head for the hills when this comes out. And even if you don't kill an enemy with this, their lower health is going to make the eventual gunfight that much easier.

8 BOOM BOT

The Boom Bot, or Battle Roomba, is a delightfully diabolical little machine that seems cute on the outside but will end up ruining your entire life. This is released in a line in front of you and bounces off walls in the opposite angle with which it made contact. Once it finds an enemy, it turns directly towards them and rushes them, attempting to explode right on top of them.

7 SHOWSTOPPER

Raze's ultimate ability, Showstopper, is a rocket launcher. Yep, that's it. And it's awesome.

A couple of things to keep in mind about Showstopper is that you have to fire it in a certain time from once pulling it out, thus the Rocket Fuse in the picture above. Also, when you fire it, the force of it is going to knock you back a few feet, so make sure you're mindful of that and don't step back somewhere you don't want to be.

6 BLAST PACK PARKOUR

Since the Blast Pack can launch you into the air, it's possible to get into some pretty creative spots with Raze. Getting into those spots someone might not look right off the bat is a fantastic way to land yourself in the easiest gunfight of your life, so make use of the possibilities.

5 BLAST PACK + SHOWSTOPPER

Sometimes, enemies are going to be mindful of the fact you've pulled out your Showstopper, and are going to get into some pretty decent cover, be it normal map cover or with one of Sage's walls. But, keep in mind, you can always use Blast Pack to get yourself a new angle that they aren't going to be able to hide from, at least not with any swiftness.

4 BOOM BOT FOR INTEL

Just because a Boom Bot gets shot before it detonates on an enemy doesn't mean it was a waste. Sending a Boom Bot into an occupied hallway/room is, nine times out of ten, going to force an enemy to destroy it before it destroys them, and if you're paying attention, you'll be able to tell where the shots came from and where the enemy is before you enter.

3 BOOM BOT ONE WAY, PUSH THE OTHER

Another way to increase the usefulness of the Boom Bot is by using it, essentially, as another teammate. Send that Boom Bot around a corner you know an enemy is around, and come around the other corner yourself.

The enemy is going to have to choose between shooting you or the Boom Bot, and unless they dispatch of both of you with some serious speed, they're going to have a bad day.

2 PAINT SHELLS + SMALL ROOMS

Any small room in Valorant is just begging to be filled with Paint Shells. Any enemy foolish enough to be seeking refuge inside these rooms is going to need to choose between one of two deaths: death by explosion, or death by bullet. Either way, you've come out on top.

1 VERSATILE

Raze is one of the most versatile characters in Valorant. She can be fit into just about any play-style, provided you're in close enough range to throw your Paint Shells and make use of the Blast Packs. She can be a heart-stopping force of nature in the hands of an aggressive player, as she orchestrates controlled chaos better than any other character in the game.

But she can also be a maestro capable of manipulating the enemy team into bad situations in the hands of the slower, more thought-out player, too. She can force enemies to give themselves away or abandon their cover, forcing them right into either her or a teammate's sight lines, all without putting herself at very much risk.
