Valheim offers players a long list of creatures to challenge and defeat. There is a large mix of them, from the relatively easy Greydwarfs and Leeches to the much more challenging Trolls and Fulings. Aside from the bosses in Valheim, however, there is one creature that poses an extreme danger to players: the Serpent.

These powerful creatures in Valheim can surprise players making their way across the vast open seas in the game and provide some of the better meat in the game. This Serpent Meat can be used to boost a player's health and prepare them for even more intense fights. For those players looking to get this Serpent Meat and get the most out of it once they have it, this guide is here to help.

Where to Get Serpent Meat

In Valheim, players looking to get their hands on Serpent Meat have to first head out on the open ocean. Serpents are the sole source of Serpent Meat in the game, but, unfortunately, these giant creatures can be quite the challenge to track down. It has to be either raining or nighttime for a Serpent to spawn, and the rain has to be either heavy or a full-on thunderstorm.

Valheim's Serpent hunters should prioritize having a Longship for its durability as well as equipping themselves with Frost Arrows for their upcoming fight. The best time for hunting a Serpent is in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm. That combination gives players a 10% spawn chance in each ocean region they enter. Unfortunately, even if the creature spawns, it may not actually see the player and become aggressive, so players must be persistent.

What to do With Serpent Meat

Serpent Meat is valuable because it can be used to create a pair of the better food items in Valheim: Cooked Serpent Meat and Serpent Stew. To cook Serpent Meat, players need to use either a pair of campfires or a Hearth and place an Iron Cooking Station over them.

This Iron Cooking Station in Valheim requires 3 Iron and 3 Chains to build and is the only cooking station large enough to cook Serpent Meat. Cooked Serpent Meat adds 70 points to a player's maximum health and 23 points to a player's maximum stamina.

Cooked Serpent Meat can be eaten or brought to a Cauldron in Valheim. At this station, Cooked Serpent Meat can be combined with 2 Honey and 1 Mushroom to create Serpent Stew. This food item increases a player's maximum health by 80 points and maximum stamina by 26 points.
