Like most survival games, Valheim restricts how much players can carry on them with inventory size and carry weight limits. Between these two features, players are forced to think wisely about which materials they pick up and take with them on their journeys, as it's rather annoying finding one's carry weight maxed out and being unable to pick up a rare material. Unfortunately, there's currently no way to increase a character's inventory size in the game, meaning players are stuck with what they have in that regard. That said, there is one way to increase carry weight, making it possible to lug back far more materials than would otherwise be possible.

Gathering materials is the name of the game in Valheim, as players will need a lot of resources in order to build their base and survive in its harsh world. Aside from inventory space, carry weight is easily the most limiting factor in doing this. By default, carry weight is capped at 300, but with a particular item, players can see this increase by 50% up to 450.

In order to increase a character's carry weight, players will need to find the vendor named Haldor. Browsing through his shop, players should notice an expensive belt called Megingjord that runs for a staggering 950 coins. Purchasing and equipping this belt will increase the player's carry weight up to 450, allowing them to carry way more stuff at any given time. As a downside, this will take up an accessory slot, so that's important to keep in mind as it may make characters less effective at fighting.

Where to find valheim shopkeeper

Currently, buying this belt from Haldor is the only known way to get it. This is the same vendor that sells Ymir Flesh, an important crafting material, and he can be found by searching the Black Forest biome. The trouble is that Haldor the trader moves around the Black Forest biome, so players that haven't found him yet will need to search the entire forest. Once close enough, a coin sack will appear on the map marking his location, and from then on out players can find him by heading to that marker. The belt is his most expensive item, so be prepared to cough up some coin.

For those interested in a bit of Norse mythology, the belt Megingjord is based on the God of Thunder himself's belt. In the lore, Thor's belt grants him supernatural levels of strength, so it tracks that wearing it in Valheim would increase carry weight limits. This belt has also appeared in other forms of pop culture, including as a magic item in Dungeons and Dragons. In the first edition of Dungeons and Dragons, this magical belt was worn by Thor and increased his strength to that of a Fire Giant, an effect that got even more powerful when worn together with his magical gloves.

Valheim is available now on PC.
