Valheim takes players into an open world full of Viking action and mythical creatures. As a survival game, fans will need to start from nothing and build up their skills and inventory to explore the vast map. However, thanks to some special methods, those looking to travel fast can rely on flying. Keep reading to learn how to access flying in Valheim and take to the skies.
There are basically two methods for unlocking this powerful ability. One relies on breaking into the game's backdoor, and the other can be done by manipulating certain mechanics in the title. Between the two options, the first is far safer but the second one can get Vikings a lot further now that teleporting has been fixed. Even if neither are the team's intention, there are instances where flying might be necessary to continue a character's journey.
So first things first, how can players unlock flying easily and instantly? It is as simple as activating cheats in Valheim, or in other words, the debug menu. To open the console command for the title, players first need to type the "imacheater" code. If that is not enough to deter you, utilize the console command menu to access the debug mode. To do this, just type the command "debugmode" which will activate creative mode. Make sure to do this before developers Iron Gate release another update patch removing these commands.
Once in creative, players are now ready to take flight. Fortunately, this part only requires hitting the "z" key which toggles flight on and off. Once on, Vikings can short skyward and travel around the map from the safety of the clouds. This should make for some fun shenanigans while waiting for Valheim's roadmap content. Keep in mind, this feature is not possible when playing on a multiplayer server. If joining up with friends, the console command for unlocking the debug mode will not work.
Now for honorable Valheim fans who do not want to cheat to get flying, there is another way. Since the game is still in Early Access, there are a lot of elements that are currently still in the works. One of these is the physics engine, which due to complexity still has some issues to iron out. Players will need to join up with friends to access this method of flying.
First, hit an ally Viking with an Abyssal Harpoon. Then build a ramp to slingshot the friend into the stratosphere. Utilize a solid object, such as a chair, to pin the friendly character and prevent being dragged along. This option will jettison the target across the map, but will most likely kill the Viking due to fall damage. If not, the player has unlocked flying as a means of fast travel without cheating.
