Valheim's new biome, Mistlands, brings a whole host of new structures, enemies, and resources for players to build, fight, and gather. This massive update has given players much to keep track of and, for those who really enjoy Valheim's building mechanics, a new material: Marble. Unfortunately, players need to unlock and craft a Black Metal Pickaxe in order to gather this new resource.

While there have been other Black Metal items in the base version of Valheim, the Mistlands update on the game's public test server brings this, the strongest pickaxe to the game. For those players looking to craft a Black Metal Pickaxe, this guide is here to help.

How to Craft a Black Metal Pickaxe in Valheim

The basic version of the Black Metal Pickaxe costs 25 Black Metal bars and 3 Yggdrasil Wood. This is a significant investment and requires players travel to both the Plains and the new Mistlands biome for the right materials. Valheim's Black Metal bars can only be created through the use of a Blast Furnace with the combination of Black Metal Scrap and Coal. The former of these items is dropped the different types of Fulings that populate the Plains and as well as stored in the wooden chests.

Yggdrasil Wood is the ingredient that must be gathered in Valheim's new Mistlands biome. Similar to other types of wood, players are going to need to chop down the Yggdrasil Shoots/trees that grow throughout the biome. These trees require a Black Metal Axe in order to be cut down but, a single tree should be enough for the recipe of the Black Metal Pickaxe. With both Black Metal bars and Yggdrasil Wood, players can construct a Black Metal Pickaxe at a level 2 Workbench.

Where to Use Black Metal Pickaxes?

With the addition of the Mistlands update, the Black Metal Pickaxe is the strongest example in the game. Because of this, players can travel throughout the different biomes in Valheim's world and make quick work of any mining operation. Aside from quickly being able to gather lower-tier metals, the main purpose of a Black Metal Pickaxe is to gather Marble in the Mistlands. While much of the ground in this biome takes the look of Marble, the only place to gather this is by mining the Petrified Bones spread throughout the area.

Valheim is available now for PC, and releases in early 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
