To progress in Valheim, survivors will need to gather a ton of materials and resources. Farming for wood and ore can be tedious if players need to travel to and from their base every time their inventory fills. There are a few ways to get around this issue. One option is to build a base near essential resources.

This method will be effective in the early game, but survivors will need to traverse the different biomes to defeat all the bosses in the game and find the necessary materials to upgrade their armor. The proper way to solve the problem is to increase inventory space with the Megingjord Belt and craft a cart for additional storage. This guide will cover how to get the belt and how to craft a cart in Valheim.

Finding Haldor

Valheim vendor

The mysterious dwarf merchant likes to hide in the Black Forest biomes. Because of the map generation in Valheim, he will never be in the same location on the map. Gamers that have made their way to the Black Forest biome will need to search for the NPC, who sells the Megingjord Belt. There are a few strategies to find him. Survivors can go about their business farming wood and ore and hope that they spot him.

The more methodical way of finding Haldor is to travel along the edges of the Black Forest. If Haldor is within 300 meters or less, an indicator will appear on the map displaying his location. While gamers will not always be successful with this technique, it will at least narrow the area that he spawns in. From there, players can walk through sectors of the forest until he appears. It may be easier to spot him at night when there is a campfire near his spawn point. One final way to locate Haldor is to use a world generator and enter the seed of the world. Some might consider this cheating, but it is an option nonetheless.

The Megingjord Belt

Every player will want to acquire the Megingjord Belt because it provides 150 additional inventory slots. Valheim is farming intensive, and storage capacity will become an issue later in the game. Gamers can purchase the belt for 950 coins from Haldor. The belt is classified as an accessory, which means it cannot be used in conjunction with the Wishbone. For the price, the belt is a steal. Farming in Valheim is so much easier and efficient with those extra slots.

Haldor sells a few other items, which are important to mention. Each of them, along with their primary use, are included below.

  • Ymir Flesh (120 coins): Crafting Item
  • Dverger Circlet (620 coins): Illuminates Nearby Areas
  • Yule Hat (100 coins): Cosmetic
  • Fishing Rod (350 coins): Used With Bait To Fish
  • Fishing Bait (10 coins): Stack Of 50 for the Rod

Survivors can also sell Rubies, Silver Necklaces, Amber Pearls, and Amber for 100+ coins. Placing a portal near Haldor is a good idea, especially when gamers move from the Black Forest into the more difficult biomes.

How To Craft A Cart

The two materials needed to craft the cart are 20 wood and 10 bronze nails. There are trees everywhere in Valheim, so farming a few trees will not be a problem. Gamers will need a forge and a smelter to create the 10 bronze nails. Bronze is formed by combining both copper and tin metal. Luckily, the ore for these metals is found right in the Black Forest biome. Players will need to have a pickaxe to mine the mineral deposits and acquire ore to smelt the metals. With the materials in hand, survivors can forge the nails and craft the cart.

Using The Cart

The cart acts as an additional inventory for players to store items. It will provide the same number of slots as the backpack. Players need to keep in mind that the cart will need to be lugged around the map, which can be a problem in elevated areas. The cart will move slower when it is carrying heavy materials as well. It is important to be mindful of the topography, as well as how far the cart will need to be pulled. Using a portal near the farming area is typically a smart idea.

While the cart will not be damaged by the hammer, enemies and trees can destroy it. When woodcutting, survivors should place the cart far enough away to ensure that it is not crushed by a falling tree. It is possible for trees to knock down other trees in a domino-like fashion. To be safe, parking it in an open area will ensure gamers will not have to leave their loot in the open world. With the Megingjord Belt and a Cart, players will have a total of 186 slots to store their items, which is more than enough space.
