There is a lot to see and explore in Valheim for players that are jumping into the open-world release for the "Viking Minecraft" experience. But Valheim offers a lot more than just looking at the scenery and building towns. There's a robust amount of combat to be found in Valheim and there are a lot of weapons and equipment to unlock. The best part is that players have the freedom to choose what types of weapons they want to do to help alter their combat experience.
Those that want to be a bit stealthier in their approach and also value the "speed" of dagger-like weapons will instantly fall in love with Knives. Unlike other weapons (that feature a 3 times modifier), Knives will harm un-alerted enemies for 6 times the damage. They also attack with incredibly swift speed and don't consume as much stamina as other weapons. One of the best Knives that players can get their hands on is the Silver Knife. Here's a look at how to craft it.
How To Create A Forge
First thing's first, before players can actually craft a Silver Knife, they'll need access to a Forge. The Forge is a very important item in Valheim, as it creates and upgrades weapons and armor to give players a better fighting chance against all of the dangers lurking across the open world.
To craft a Forge, players will need to get their hands on:
- Coal x4
- Stone x4
- Copper x6
- Wood x10
Thankfully, all of these items are pretty easy to find early on and are absolutely paramount to survival in the early stages of the game. Players will likely have a lot of these materials stored up if they've been exploring their surroundings.
Where To Find Materials For The Silver Knife
Here's a look at all of the materials that players will need to gather if they want to make a Silver Knife.
Wood
Wood is one of the easiest materials for players to come across. It can be found almost anywhere and players will need to amass tons of it during their journey through Valheim. Small trees in the starting biome can be damaged by unarmed attacks and will produce Wood, while larger trees require a Stone Axe to harvest their materials. Wood can also be gained from deconstructing buildings, chests, and other random objects discovered through exploration.
Leather Scraps
Grabbing Leather Scraps should be pretty easy too, since they can be found in Chests scattered throughout the starting Biome (Meadow). They're also dropped from Wild Boar, which can easily be hunted since they turn aggressive when attacked. Be careful though, as even Boar pose a serious threat to an under-equipped player, especially early on.
Silver
To get some Silver, players will need to head to a Mountains Biome and mine it from any of the nodes they discover. These particular nodes are abundant underground but sometimes show up on the surface in these biomes. Unfortunately, Silver isn't mineable unless players have an Iron Pickaxe (or better).
Iron
To make that Iron Pickaxe, and get the necessary Iron for the craft, players will need to venture into the Swamp Biome. Here, they can farm Iron Scraps from Oozers (with a 30 percent drop rate) or find it within Muddy Scrap Piles. It's also possible to snag it from Sunken Crypt chests, but those require gaining a key from the boss in the Black Forest.
How To Craft And Upgrade The Silver Knife
Once all of the appropriate items have been collected, players can craft the Silver Knife. By using the Forge, they'll get the "base version" of the speedy weapon. It's important to note that the Forge must be level 3 before players can craft the knife, so any applicable upgrades to the Forge must be done and placed first.
Once crafted, the Silver Knife can then be updated three additional times to unlock its true potential. The upgrade process will require the following materials:
Quality 2
- Requires Forge Level 4
- 1 Wood
- 1 Leather scraps
- 1 Iron
- 5 Silver
Quality 3
- Requires Forge Level 5
- 2 Wood
- 2 Leather scraps
- 2 Iron
- 10 Silver
Quality 4
- Requires Forge Level 6
- 3 Wood
- 3 Leather scraps
- 3 Iron
- 15 Silver
What Is The Silver Knife?
The Silver Knife is technically the fourth Knife that players will have access to, if created in succession and with the available materials. It comes with a 3-hit combo that ends in a double-damage attack and it does 6 times the damage to any un-alerted enemies. It also has a secondary attack that allows players to "leap" at enemies and do 3 times the damage. Here's a look at its base stats when players first create it, as well as its potential upgrades:
