Valheim player and reddit user TheHylian27 took to the internet to show off an impressive reconstruction of their grandfather's cabin in-game. Pictured side by side, the re-creation looks like the spitting image of the original but in the Viking aesthetic of Valheim.

The Viking survival RPG places players in a procedurally-generated world based on Viking mythology. In this form of purgatory, players have to explore, gather materials, and build shelters in order to take on the world's bosses. The stone and wood building system within the Early Access title has already seen players re-create numerous famous structures from other games and real life.

TheHylian27 used a combination of core wood and regular wood to assemble this structure in an open field in the Meadows Biome. The real cabin displays a mixture of antlers from different animals and, as an extra touch, the player added deer trophies on the exterior logs to match. The Valheim player made sure to include the first boss Eikthyr's trophy on top to replicate the largest of the real life skull and antlers. The mixture of core wood logs as supports and regular wood walls with matching window spaces makes the entire structure look authentic.

Valheim has continued to receive strong reviews in its short run and part of what makes this game work is its building system. Players have used it to make some impressive builds like a re-creation of the USS Iowa and even the Eye of Sauron. This specific build, while not requiring the same amount of hours as the aforementioned ones, holds a special meaning for TheHylian27. They wrote in the comments that they haven't been able to spend as much time with their grandfather due to the pandemic.

Part of the reason why Valheim's open world works well is that it is pliable. The building system within the game is flexible enough to convey most anything that players want to re-create, from builds like Stormwind Harbor from World of Warcraft to this tribute to a player's grandfather. The fact that bases are a necessary part of the game makes it work better and makes the world more interesting as each place can be shaped to a player's need.

Noting that, Valheim's building system isn't perfect and players can be easily frustrated when pieces don't clip the way the player wants. And at the moment, players are limited to what materials they can build with as well. Just wood and stone structures are possible without mods. But regardless of any frustrations, Valheim remains a sales success and TheHylian27's build is a great re-creation of their grandfather's cabin.
