There are a variety of different weapons in Valheim that do different types of damage. One of the many kind are maces and hammers, which do blunt damage.

Different Kinds of Damage

Different creatures in the land of Valheim are weak or strong against different kinds of damage. For example, Surtlings, which are the main source of picking up Surtling cores, don't take much damage from elemental fire arrows. Also, skeletons take less damage from pierce sources and much more from blunt sources, like maces. Therefore, players should have a variety of weapons on their person in order to make sure that, whatever they are battling, they can deal the most damage they can.

Iron Mace

An iron mace is a blunt weapon made from iron, wood, and leather scraps in Valheim. In order to get wood, players can chop down just about any type of tree in the game, and leather scraps come from boars. Players can easily get many scraps by keeping a few boar domesticated for breeding and using some of their offspring for both raw meat and scraps. Boar can also be found wild in the Meadows and in the Black Forest fairly easily.

As for Iron, players will need to kill the second boss of Valheim called the Elder. This tree ent will drop something called a Swamp Key which opens up crypts in Valheim. Once the Swamp Key has been obtained, players can begin to delve into Sunken Crypts in the Swamp Biome. These usually contain muddy scrap piles, which can be mined for leather scraps and iron scraps.

How to make an iron mace in Valheim

Making the Mace

After players have gathered all the needed materials, they will need to smelt the iron scraps with the smelter. After collecting four wood, three leather scraps, and 20 smelted Valheim iron, players will be able to make the Iron Mace at a level 2 Forge. The mace can then be upgraded.

Level 1 Iron Mace - 4 Wood, 3 Leather Scraps, 20 Iron, Level 2 Valheim Forge

  • Durability - 200
  • Blunt Damage - 55
  • Parry Force - 30

Level 2 Iron Mace - 10 Iron, Level 3 Forge

  • Durability - 250
  • Blunt Damage - 61
  • Parry Force - 35

Level 3 Iron Mace - 20 Iron, Level 4 Forge

  • Durability - 300
  • Blunt Damage - 67
  • Parry Force - 40

Level 4 Iron Mace - 30 Iron, Level 5 Forge

  • Durability - 350
  • Blunt Damage - 73
  • Parry Force - 45

Since the maces, hammers, and clubs of Valheim do blunt damage, they will be great against skeletons, blobs, oozes, and even stone golems. The Iron Mace is a fantastic overall third-level weapon for players just beginning to delve into the Swamp Biome's murky waters.

Valheim is currently in early access for PC.
