In Valheim, players will need to collect a plethora of materials, all used to build and maintain items for survival. Players covet items that allow them to build some of the best weapons in Valheim, and one of these is the elusive and strange Guck.

Uses for Guck

Guck is a goopey, glowing, green substance found in the Swamp biome in Valheim. Players can use Guck to make a green banner, a green iron torch, and the beautiful bow Draugr fang which glows faintly green. Since a collection of banners are needed to raise the comfort level of a Valheim home and the bow is a great, late-game weapon, players will probably be hoping to get some guck of their own.

Where to Find Guck

Guck is located only in the Swamp Biome in Valheim and is attached to trees. When players look up into the Ancient Trees that fill this wet biome, they will see an occasion tree covered in what looks like glowing slime enemies. These are Guck sacks, and they can be broken off of the trees with a melee weapon.

Guck Trees in Valheim

Since players can't use ranged weapons, and ancient trees covered in Guck Sacks cannot be cut down, it's not easy to get enough Guck. Players need 10 Guck to make a Draugr fang and 1 Guck to make a green banner, so it's not recommended by most players to waste the Guck on making the torches. Lighting can be easily made with cheaper, easier-to-find materials and kept lit with resin instead of Guck. The green light of the standing green-burning iron torch, made from Guck and Iron in Valheim, doesn't have an special uses or powers. It doesn't appear to give players any kind edge, so it's not worth the extra expense.

Best Ways to Get Guck

The best practice of getting Guck is to build to it. Once players have a good set of armor in Valheim like the Wolf Armor, and no longer feel threatened by the icky denizens of the Swamp, they can setup a base of operations near a tree. Build a structure that will be stable even at heights, as some of these trees are incredibly high. If playing co-op, players can also guard the base of the tower as another builds or goes to fetch more wood to continue building up the sides of the goop-covered tree. This is the only way to get Guck in large amounts; otherwise, players will just have to hope to find enough Guck Sacks close to the ground.
