Valheim's long-awaited Hearth and Home update is finally here, and several new items have been added to the game. Players can now ride Lox through the lands of Valheim, craft new items like the cartography table, and even have a new plant to farm. This latest crop is onions, and they can be used to make some delicious onion soup.

How to Get Onion Seeds in Valheim

Before Valheim's Hearth and Home update dropped, players could get new seeds and foods in all the different biomes except the Mountains. While heading to the Black Forest for the first time added blueberries and carrots, the Swamps had turnips, the dangerous Plains added barley, flax, and cloudberries, and the Mountains didn't add any new foods for players at all. But now, players can find onion seeds in the frozen depths of the Mountains, giving them even more recipes to help fend off their enemies.

Onion seeds are currently found only in one spot in Valheim: treasure chests. Players can find treasure chests in ruins all over the Mountains biome, and they now feature onion seeds as new loot.

How to Plant Onion Seeds in Valheim

Onions are planted much like every other cultivated plant in the game; players just need to first make a Valheim cultivator out of bronze. Bronze is made by smelting tin and copper together. Once players equip the cultivator, they can then choose what seeds to plant out of their inventory.

Onions, like all the other plants in the game, take three in-game days to mature. Players can then collect the onions and eat or cook them, or replant the onion to get even more onion seeds to help expand their onion-growing potential. For every planted onion, players will get three onion seeds back, therefore tripling the number of seeds they originally had. This process also takes three in-game days.

Recipes Featuring Onions in Valheim

So far, there only seems to be one recipe for onions: onion soup. This dish requires three onions to make, and it gives players 12 health and 60 stamina. While it's not one of the best foods in Valheim, there's no denying that the massive boost in stamina could be helpful while exploring the Mountains biome.

Cooking this recipe requires Cauldron improvements, which are also new to the Hearth and Home update. Players will need a level 2 cauldron. Upgrades for the cauldron work the same as workbench upgrades; players will have to build them reasonably close to the cauldron's location for them to apply.
