This week's list of Steam top-selling games, as measured by revenue and not unit-sales, has shown that Valheim's ongoing success is more than a viral phenomena. Valheim has overcoming its competition for four weeks straight, meaning Valheim has been in the top position of Steam's weekly top-sellers for the entirety of February. It doesn't look like its popularity will be tapering off anytime soon.
Technically, Valheim did have a bit of a dip this past week. The game reached its highest concurrent player count on February 21 and has spent the week since dropping and climbing back. One week later and Valheim didn't quite reach the numbers of this past Sunday, but it came close. This could have just been a hitch, or it could mean that Valheim's month-long growth has reached a plateau. That's nothing to be sad about, however, as Valheim already has over four million players.
This week's Steam chart did see a shake-up below Valheim's sturdy lead. The second and third top-selling products swapped places, with Tale of Immortal falling to third for the first time in five weeks and the Valve Index VR Kit climbing to second. The last time the Valve Index VR Kit was so high was mid-January. The continued success of Tale of Immortal is perhaps as deserving of praise as Valheim's success, or at least it's newsworthy because it remains solely available in Simplified Chinese.
The remaining top 10 is surprising compared to last week. Number four and five were picked up by Persona 5 Strikers, likely representing the game's standard and deluxe editions. Stardew Valley came in sixth as it celebrates its fifth anniversary. Pre-purchases of People Can Fly's Outriders put it in seventh, as the game's demo has built a lot of hype. Eighth, ninth, and tenth then belong to Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition, Baldur's Gate 3, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Operation Broken Fang respectively.
It seems worth wondering whether the combined sales of Persona 5 Strikers' standard and deluxe editions would have pushed it up to the top of this week's list. That wouldn't minimize what Valheim has accomplished, but it would show just how excited fans have been for more Persona.
There's likely to be more shaken up next week. Valheim seems likely to retain the top spot, but its fluctuation could continue. One game to watch is Devolver Digital's Loop Hero, which could have a solid launch. Otherwise, there's always the chance of a surprise.
