While the game only recently came out, Valheim has reached an impressive level of popularity in the gaming community, breaking away from the cluster of survival games in the market. At this current time, Valheim has more concurrent players than Grand Theft Auto 5. While this record is only on Steam, that doesn't make it any less impressive.

Part of the game's appeal to players is the many mysteries in Valheim that players can discover for themselves. Recently, a fan by the username of "Scoobysnacklover1" shared a screenshot of a mysterious cloaked figure that approached them at night.

In the picture posted on Reddit, the figure is holding a cane and silently watching the user in the distance. While some users have yet to encounter this figure in the game, there is one theory that many different fans have put together to reveal the cloaked person's identity in Valheim.

The most prominent prevailing theory is that this is Odin watching the gamer in his mortal form. Some fans think that when a player does something to gain favor with Odin, he will appear at night to watch over them. This also isn't restricted to a specific biome in Valheim; Odin will come to find gamers wherever they are on the map. A different user exclaimed that they did approach this mysterious being when it appeared in their game, but when they walked up to it, it turned into a Greydwarf Shaman. However, most of the time, the figure will simply disappear if gamers get too close.

A lot of the history behind Odin's character in Norse mythology also seems to justify this claim. Odin is often described as a man with travelers' clothes and a walking stick whenever he wishes to disguise himself in the human world. And if gamers get close enough, they can also notice that the cloaked figure has only one glowing red eye. This is possibly in reference to when Odin gave up one of his eyes for cosmic knowledge.

Some of the other possibilities that players have guessed are Fear Dubh, The Clutchbone, or Der Erlkonig, other prominent mythological figures. And while neither Coffee Stain Studios nor Iron Gate Studio has commented on the identity of the cloaked figure yet, most of the evidence is seemingly pointed towards Odin. Odin often watches over people to see how they overcome tests in life, so this is most likely a sign from the developers that the gods are watching over the player's quest to cultivate Valheim.

Valheim is available now on PC.
