Valheim is a survival game inspired by Norse mythology and took the gaming world by storm back in 2021 when it was first released. With each game taking place on a unique map which is randomly generated, one of the best things about Valheim is going in blind and enjoying the natural exploration.

Inevitably to gain access to rare and vital resources though, players will have to meet their makers and face off against the six bosses of Valheim, known as the Forsaken. To find these bosses, players should touch and read Runestones in the different biomes, as doing so will then mark the location of the boss, as well as hinting at which items will be needed to summon it. Naturally the bosses will get progressively harder and harder, though the loot they drop as well as the Forsaken Powers they pass on are more than worth the struggle.

Updated on April 5, 2023, by Joe Grantham: Valheim is a game that is still in the early access stage of development, meaning that updates and tweaks are to be constantly expected. One of the biggest updates to the game was the Mistlands Update which gave life to Valheim's hardest biome.

In the Mistlands, players will now also be able to find the game's latest boss, The Queen, though taking her down is no easy task. For now, she is the last available boss in Valheim, but with updates planned for the Ashlands biome and the Deep North, more bosses can be expected.

6 Eikthyr

Valheim Eikthyr Boss

It should come as no surprise that the first boss in Valheim is the easiest to take down, and players will find Eikthyr in the relatively safe Meadows. While Eikthyr may be able to shoot electric bolts from his antlers, they tend to be easy enough to dodge for anyone with solid reflexes. Players who know how to parry effectively and who can use a Wooden Shield and Flint Spear will find that the fight isn't too hard. The option to use a bow and arrow is always there for players less confidant in their melee skills.

Still, it's important to not just run in while still wearing rags. Having Leather Armor is recommended so that any hits taken aren't fatal. Combine this with some good food and a full night's sleep before the battle and Eikthyr shouldn't be too big of a problem

5 The Elder

The Elder

It can take quite literally hundreds of Fire Arrows to take down The Elder, the boss found in the Black Forest, and it's vital that players pile on as much fire damage as they can. This can mean everything from setting up multiple fireplaces in hopes the boss might step on them or even trying to attack with a torch if desperate.

One of the most difficult parts of trying to take down The Elder is making sure not to run into the woods too far away in an effort to use ranged attacks. The battle is challenging enough without having to deal with the Greydwarves or Trolls in the surrounding area. Make sure to not drift too far away and bring a lot of healing potions, as well as food that gives plenty of stamina for the inevitably long fight.

4 Moder

What to do with Dragon Eggs in Valheim

It can be a pain collecting all of the dragon eggs needed to summon Moder, and even more of a pain to take her down once the battle begins. Moder can attack from the ground or in the air and her blizzard breath is liable to freeze players to death incredibly quickly.

The thing is that in the end, Moder's attacks aren't too difficult to dodge for players with good reflexes. A lot of what makes the battle difficult is how big Moder's health pool is. With this in mind it's a good idea to try to bring as many arrows as possible, especially Poison Arrows or anything else that deals damage over time. Players will also find it vital to have Wolf Armor so they don't freeze to death in the Mountains.

3 Yagluth

Yagluth

Despite being the second to last boss in Valheim and an inhabitant of the dangerous Plains, Yagluth tends to not be that difficult to defeat in relative terms. By that point in the game, players are likely to have some of the best weapons and armor in the game which makes any fight a bit easier. Plus, most of its attacks are slow and very telegraphed which makes it no struggle to dodge them.

For players looking to make this boss fight easier, the following are some of Yagluth's combat patterns. If Yagluth's fist is glowing orange, he's about to summon meteors. If he rears his head back, he's about to spit flames from his mouth. If his hand is glowing blue, be prepared for a fist smash attack. The fight is even easier with friends as Yagluth chooses to focus on only one opponent at a time.

2 Bonemass

Despite not being the final boss of the game, Bonemass is by far one of the hardest of them all to defeat. Still, it's absolutely worth taking on the fight to be able to get a Wishbone. Bonemass has three different attacks it can use. Its melee attack is scary, but even more so is the toxic miasma that floods the air causing severe poison damage to anyone caught inside it. It's easy to die in a quick instant to it but then add in the fact that Bonemass can summon Skeletons, Blobs, and Oozers to join the fray, and this boss becomes a headache to defeat.

Luckily, there are a few ways to help take it down. Bonemass resists all kinds of damage except blunt damage so be sure to choose the right weapon for the job. The Stagbreaker is particularly useful for this fight. It is also nearly impossible for players to beat Bonemass without poison resistance mead, so don't forget to stock up. This is a good tip for any trip into the Swamp.

1 The Queen

Valheim The Queen Boss in Mistlands

The Mistlands is the hardest biome in Valheim and here players will also find the most difficult boss to defeat, The Queen. More specifically she can be found in Infested Citadels and a Sealbreaker will be needed to gain entry. With her four arms, The Queen has a few melee attacks, as well as the ability to bite, inflicting poison damage.

Arguably more dangerous though is her spew attack which not only damages, but also spawns Seeker Broods. With her ferocious roar she can also summon normal Seekers. The Queen also moves extremely fast often burrowing to reposition, and with massive hitboxes it is hard to avoid her knockback. To avoid taking too much damage from falling down, players should acquire a Feather Cape and take a Wisplight with them to be able to see through the mist.

Valheim is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
