Valheim offers players the chance to explore and conquer a brutal, mythical world. The Viking survival and sandbox game also allows players to build across its open world. Through a combination of mods and the game's creative mode, U/ButterscotchPure4043 has taken Valheim's building system out of this world through an alien invasion.

The Viking aesthetic mixes well with the game's survival mechanics and Valheim has seen rapid success in its first months of existence. The building system, however, has its limits with a relatively realistic approach to supporting structures. Players have therefore unlocked the game's creative mode and added in mods to push their creations to new heights.

U/ButterscotchPure4043's post shows an area of Valheim under siege by an alien invasion. The first thing that grabs viewers attention are the large vertical vessels that appear to descend from the sky. These ships radiate green, the largest of which produces a green light into a ritual circle in the midst of the classic Viking village. The contrast between these metal invading structures and the wooden village perfectly conveys the title of the post "Alien Invasion." There are even a handful of four legged alien walkers making their way over buildings.

What this build truly shows, aside from a Viking village under attack, is the powerful combination of creative mode and mods in Valheim. The vanilla building system within the game already has significant capabilities and has lead to numerous impressive creations. But the combination Ghost Builds, Lin, and Arch G went with to make this alien invasion unlocks a new world of possibilities.

It is true that the intention of Valheim's vanilla version is to challenge players to survive and build with restrictions similar to the real world. And so there will likely always be those players that prefer vanilla buildings and creations in all games. For example, in Minecraft, players who take on the extra challenge of gathering the supplies and relying on tools with limited lifespans often get more credit for their in-depth constructions.

But mods and creative modes are just another path towards flexing a game's capabilities and a player's creativity. They open up more possibilities for those players looking to try something new and unique. A creative mode and mods can therefore open up a game to more players. As well as keep its current players interested by adding more options. Either way, this mode and mod combination is the only way for this build to exist in the world of Valheim.
