Nintendo has recently announced its new OLED Switch model. It boasts a 7-inch OLED screen, a wider adjustable kickstand, and enhanced speakers. The new dock includes a LAN port that allows the user to bypass their Wi-Fi and plug directly into their router. It even includes a greatly expanded upon storage capacity, increasing it to 64GB. Gamers can expect to pick up the console on October 8.
While not the upgrade most people were expecting, it is still a welcomed upgrade nonetheless, especially for those who have yet to purchase a Switch for themselves. With the improvements that were made, the future looks brighter for the Switch's upcoming games.
10 Neo: The World Ends With You (Release Date - July 27)
Fresh off the anime adaptation of the original, Neo: The World Ends With You is the long-awaited sequel to the Nintendo DS classic from 2007. With characters both old and new, the player will once again traverse the busy streets of Tokyo in an effort to save their soul from the mysterious forces of The Reapers Game.
The player will partner up with allies and use pins that grant them supernatural powers in order to defeat whatever obstacles come in their way. The series has garnered a reputation for its excellent soundtrack which will be all the better represented with the new Switch model's speakers.
9 No More Heroes 3 (Release Date - August 27)
From the mind of game developer Suda51, this sequel continues the legend of world-famous assassin Travis Touchdown. Travis now finds himself in the midst of an alien invasion and must work his way up to the top of the Superhero Leaderboard.
Originally for the Wii, this sequel maintains the tradition by allowing the player to play through the game with motion controls. This approach is aided by the new, larger OLED screen as well as a wider kickstand for those playing on the go. Just remember to wear wrist straps.
8 WarioWare: Get It Together (Release Date - September 10)
WarioWare is a strange series, to say the least, but it can be said that this adds to the wild fun that can be had. In this latest entry, players choose a character then use their respective talents to quickly solve and traverse through a series of insane micro-games. With support for online play, the new Switch dock and its LAN port will be extra useful for those wanting to play with others from around the world.
7 Metroid Dread (Release Date - October 8)
As one of the standouts at this year's E3, a lot of pressure has been placed upon the first mainline 2-D Metroid game in 19 years. Players will return to the armored boots of Samus as they face a new, darker threat. The game will have players working smarter to deal with fast and powerful robots called EMMIs as they make their way through this mysterious new world they find themselves in.
If the trailers are to be believed, the audio design will be up to the incredible standard that has been present in every other Metroid game. A perfect piece to demonstrate the better speakers of the Switch OLED model.
6 Mario Party Superstars (Release Date - October 29)
Fans will be able to enjoy five classic boards from the Nintendo-64 era of Mario Party in this latest entry to the series. Not only have these five boards been stunningly recreated for the modern console but they will also include over 100 mini-games from all across Mario Party history.
After Super Mario Party, this game is a return to the original formula that fans of the series were drawn to. As a multiplayer-focused game, the LAN port on the OLED model dock promises to better connect people who wish to play together.
5 Shin Megami Tensei 5 (Release Date - November 11)
Most gamers find themselves at least somewhat familiar with the Persona series, yet not quite so many people know that Persona was a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. In this long-awaited sequel, the player will collect, train, and fuse demons as they navigate a world covered in endless battles between demons and gods.
The gameplay is similar to Pokemon in that the player will also be exploiting enemy weaknesses based on their type, so it does possess a familiar quality to it. As with many JRPGs, the game will no doubt be large. Luckily, the expanded 64GB storage space will surely come in handy for what will undoubtedly be a massive game.
4 Pokemon: Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl (Release Date - November 19)
Remakes to the excellent Diamond and Pearl Pokemon games released back in 2006, these games will retell the story of the Sinnoh region. Through upgraded graphics like the remakes before, players will be able to relive this great adventure.
Contending with Team Galactic and discovering the Pokemon gods of space and time should be just as much fun this time around. Originally games only for the DS, the Switch offers an endless amount of possibilities for this beloved pair of adventures. All upgrades involved in the new model will contribute — the larger screen, the better speakers, the bigger kickstand, all of it.
3 Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp (Release Date - December 3)
These remakes promise to bring back the wonderful fun that people experienced with the first two Advance Wars games, now with a litany of improvements. Like other games in the series, players choose a faction and a leader to push back against the enemy forces. These forces will be faced through turn-based tactics, forcing the player to contend with varied terrain and make the most out of every unit.
These games will lure the player into a world of conflict that quickly pushes their ability to overcome the odds and achieve victory. With online play included, LAN becomes a useful asset for those who wish to cooperate or compete with friends online.
2 Splatoon 3 (Release Date - 2022)
From the series that surprised the world back in the days of the Wii U comes this newest entry. Splatoon subverts the idea of what a shooter can be by not only clashing with enemies but painting the town red, or whatever color is at the player's disposal.
The goal in basic multiplayer is to cover the most ground as possible in the player's own colored ink and prevent the enemy from covering more ground in their own color. The OLED model offers a bigger screen size that is sure to make the colors pop and keep the player's focus throughout every intense match.
1 Sequel To The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Release Date - TBA)
Little is known about this highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Game of the Year, but from what is known so far, it is looking like it will be Nintendo's next killer title. Recent trailers have shown Link will be traversing Hyrule all over again but with some twists. The game features floating islands, improved powers, and a new menace that threatens to destroy all of Hyrule.
With so much game to be contained, many aspects of the newest Switch will aid those who wish to experience the upcoming sequel in the best way possible.
