It would seem that a little goose in the new Switch title Untitled Goose Game, also planned for a PC release in the future, has taken the world of gaming by storm over the weekend. So it comes as no surprise that players are already pushing the limits of the game and setting impossible records.

For those who haven't seen this indie gem, Untitled Goose Game is a fun little adventure where players take control of a goose as they steal people's stuff, break their property, and ultimately torment a small village. For most players, this becomes a three or four hour adventure, and that is where the speedrunner Seij breaks the game and records.

With the game having been out for only four days at this point, Seij managed to destroy the average playtime by completing the game in under four minutes. Using a number of clipping glitches and skipping over hours of content allowed Seij to find the church bell (the main objective of the game) and take it to his growing pile of treasures before the bell even had the chance to ring. This is most certainly not the endgame for the speedrunning community, since records are often set and broken countless times, as new exploits are discovered and mastered.

The specific exploits Seij uses are commonly referred to as "clipping" due to the way that they cause the player character, in this case the goose, to break through the physical barriers of the game in order to make progress faster than the developers expect. Fortunately, the game didn't seem to run into any sequence breaking bugs, likely a benefit of Untitled Goose Game's simple design. Game-breaking glitches are par for the course when it comes to training up for speedruns, and often leads to some fairly entertaining moments over on Twitch where the hours of prep work tends to get logged.

Speedruns like Seij's have a huge fan community behind them and are one of the more entertaining forms of gaming content available online. Between the exceptional showings of skill and the endless moments of rage as players try and fail to rush through difficult encounters, falling on their face the whole way through. Untitled Goose Game is a pleasure to watch either first timers, speedrunners, and everything in between, and at only $19.99 it comes much easier on the wallet for anyone unsure about dropping $60 on Link's Awakening.

Untitled Goose Game is available now on Switch, with a planned release on PC and MacOS.
