Netflix released the official trailer for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2 ahead of its October 19th, 2020, premiere. The preview offers viewers a chilling glimpse at the six new mysteries that will be explored when the latest iteration of the documentary crime series returns, including a brand new ghost story.

Unsolved Mysteries debuted in 1987 as a series of television specials created by John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer before developing into a proper show on NBC in 1988. Hosted by Robert Stack, the series presented cold cases and unexplained phenomena to viewers for years until its cancelation following a short-lived stint on CBS in 1997. Attempts at reviving the series in the ensuing years were unsuccessful,  until Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy partnered with Cosgrove-Meurer Productions and Netflix to produce a 12-part Unsolved Mysteries reboot in 2019.

Shortly after the first run of episodes aired in July 2020, Meurer stated the remaining mysteries would include two more international cases and an "unusual ghost story." Now, the official trailer for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2 confirms the six episodes will center specifically on tsunami spirits, stolen kids, a lady in the lake, the Washington Insider Murder, a death in Oslo, and a death row fugitive. "Why is it important to find out why a person died 25 years ago? People die all the time," says an interviewee in the opening seconds of the trailer, raising the central concept of the series. "I think it’s important for the family to know what happened to her."

Unlike the original version of Unsolved Mysteries that aired through the late '80s and '90s, Netflix's reboot is presented in a standard documentary style. While the reboot still includes reenactments, there is a greater focus on interviews with individuals analyzing the cases and there is no host, although Stack's image is included in the opening credits as a tribute. As with its predecessor, the Unsolved Mysteries reboot led to some real-world movement when the FBI reopened the case on Alonzo Brooks, whose death was explored in the fourth episode of the series.

The promise of a new ghost mystery will likely come as a welcomed addition for Unsolved Mysteries fans. While the first volume of the reboot included an episode focused on the 1969 UFO encounters in Berkshire County, some viewers familiar with the original iteration of the Unsolved Mysteries were disappointed that more supernatural tales were not included.

The return of Unsolved Mysteries means Netflix subscribers will have no shortage of spooky titles to watch this Halloween season. In fact, the second installment of Mike Flanagan's horror anthology series, The Haunting of Bly Manor, premieres on the streaming service just over a week before Unsolved Mysteries returns.
