Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the latest CG project for the series. The previous titles in this style were direct-to-video movies, and this one is more or less the same thing. It was just retooled by Netflix instead, in order to make it feel more like an animated series. Whatever format it’s presented in, though, Infinite Darkness has a few issues.

Though it has its strong points, the series suffers from pacing issues. A lot scenes feel rushed, as though there was a sprint to get to the finish line. That’s not necessarily a bad thing for media if handled right. Unfortunately for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, though, this left a lot of unanswered questions on the table as well as some issues with the plot that didn’t add up. There will be spoilers for all four episodes ahead in discussing some of these plot holes.

8 The White House Attack's Resolution

There are a lot of things that don’t add up about the White House zombie attack. Presumably, Wilson set it up to help put fear into President Graham, so that he would believe his propaganda about China. The whole incident happens so fast, and yet the next day it’s like nothing ever happened. Surely there should have been more panic.

It’s covered up from the press even though people died, and there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the building itself. This might be the fastest resolution in any Resident Evil piece of media.

7 Everything About The Sub Plot

Another fast acting event occurs shortly after the White House attack. Jason and Shen May plant the virus on the sub in order to have excuse to kill people — but why didn’t they kill Leon?

The inclusion of all the rats was another confusing, strange choice. There’s no way they could have snuck that many rats aboard the sub, and there's also no way that many rats were natively on the sub in the first place. Rats have also never really been a thing in the Resident Evil series, so why bring them in here?

6 Leon Should Have Played It Cool

Leon from Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

After the sub incident, it was very obvious to Leon that Jason and Shen May were up to no good. Instead of playing it cool and having them lead him to their destination, he ruins it by showing his cards far too early.

His behavior here goes against spy training 101 in movies. It was obvious to most viewers that he should have stayed undercover instead of shooting up the place. It's fair to say that Infinite Darkness Leon was not the smartest iteration of the character in the series

Leon ruining his lead ultimately doesn’t matter. Somehow, he is able to follow Shen May all the way to her brother without suspicion. How did she not see him trailing her? How far did they go without her spotting him?

Finally, at the safe house, why did she run and not just shoot Leon? She had the advantage. It could have been that she was not armed, but if that was the case, she’s a bad soldier. Never leave anywhere without a gun while undercover — that’s another obvious training point to follow in media, especially in a series like Resident Evil, which is filled with bio weapons

4 Why Is There Only One Chip?

Multiple characters from Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

There is a rule of thumb in video games and other related media that there should always be a copy of something important. Yet again, Infinite Darkness breaks a law of media. Why Shen May or anyone else didn’t think to clone the chip is beyond anyone’s guess. The only logical character in Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness was seemingly Claire, who wanted to do just that: copy the chip.

On that matter, why was the chip even being kept in that house in the first place? Was it just because Shen May’s brother was also there? It doesn’t seem smart to keep all evidence in one place. At least Claire was smart about it.

3 How Is Jason In Control?

Jason mutated from Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

It is established by the end of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness that Jason is taking inhibitors that Wilson helped developed. This allows Jason to not turn into a monster and thus control his actions. Eventually, he refuses to take the concoction and immediately turns into what looks like the Hulk.

Not only does this happen in an instant as if he can control this power at will, but his mind stays intact during the transformation. This flies in the face of the implication that he would be destroying things chaotically if he stopped taking the medicine.

2 Claire Should Be Dead

Claire from Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

Claire and Leon should both be dead ten times over. This is true in Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness and it is also true for the whole series. Claire is really the one that sticks out in the show, though, as her room is filled with acid.

The acid destroys most things in an instant, except when it comes to her chair. Not only does it wait to melt until she frees herself, but not a drop of acid ruins her clothes. It’s all a little too convenient to believe.

1 How Does Wilson Escape?

A tricell briefcase from Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

When Jason transforms, it is to pin Wilson to a wall. He seems like he is about to die, until Jason drops him once Leon and Shen May call Jason out. Somehow Wilson is able to escape even though Jason could have been able to easily finish him off. He manages to get away, but is somehow caught in the process off screen.

One of the final scenes of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness sees Wilson being tortured by what appears to be a Tricell agent. This is the organization behind everything in Resident Evil 5, which is a nice Easter Egg that ties the series to the game; however, it still leaves Wilson’s fate in the dark.
