A lot of people waited eagerly for Cyberpunk 2077, and ever since it's been released, life has been a rollercoaster for the game's fanbase. Some people love it, while others hate it with a passion — and there seems to be no in-between. But for those who have not yet played the game, it might be confusing to put these pieces together.

Some say it's too edgy, some don't understand the role Keanu Reaves plays in the game, and others think it's simply boring to play. Today, the most unpopular opinion about Cyberpunk 2077 is if someone actually enjoyed it, which can't be said to most well-known games. Here's what the Reddit community has to say about some of the more controversial viewpoints.

7 It's A Great Game

On one Reddit thread, a player by the username exgener8 writes "yes, it was overhyped, but when you look at what this game does right, it does them astoundingly well." While some players can't get over the downsides of Cyberpunk 2077, a lot of players simply let go of this disappointment and look at it as an okay game that was a victim of its own overmarketing. Still, the positives seem to shine through to some players: "none of the problems I've listed are greater than the positives of the game."

"Having played all the content, I'm left impressed [...]Cyberpunk 2077 will age like fine wine" says the impressed Reddit user. While most people can't seem to agree with the statement, it might be right about one thing. The game was overhyped and was massively overmarketed, leading to expectations skyrocketing for the end results. And after almost a decade of work, the final product left players wanting more, which can be a reason for bias about the game. Although it's undeniable that the gameplay is full of bugs, there are good aspects to the game.

6 Glitches Weren't That Bad, But The Story Was Underwhelming

It's not every day that someone can read a thread about Cyberpunk 2077, and run into a statement like "I didn't even experience bad glitches." Although the writer of the post, lilgodok, is less than amused with the outcome of the game, they do have some positive opinions, which are more than hard to find.

In the thread, they give the game a 7/10 rating, which is higher than most players would want to give. They weren't impressed with the story, but appreciated the game's score, found the gameplay enjoyable, and didn't experience game-breaking bugs.

5 It Could Have Been A Masterpiece

Reddit user Bambapetel gave the game an even higher rating of 8/10, saying "it could've been a masterpiece." They follow this statement with pros and cons about the game, which players know all too well (especially the cons). As for pros, the user points out that the characters are animated perfectly, and the interaction with the world is "nothing short of revolutionary."

But, while the story is well written and interesting, it "is way too short, and there are too few interesting side quests." This, combined with the issue of a small map, translates to an even bigger problem: the game is too limited. And games that limit explorations usually excel in story-telling, which Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't deliver.

4 It's Unlikely To Ever Be Fully Fixed

Most players who are underwhelmed by the game are hoping for later updates to relieve them and prove them wrong. Though more updates are coming as we speak, there there are pessimist gamers who don't believe the game will be fixed. "I think about No Man's Sky and hope," says user aa0317195, but they're not getting those hopes too high.

"Hype to quality ratio is zero," they point out. Most players can agree upon, this point but still hold on to hope that at least the bugs and small issues will be fixed, making the game an overall average one. But for this Reddit user, all hope is lost, and few people want to give in to this pessimistic worldview.

3 It's A Solid Game

One of the most unpopular opinions about the game is that it has potential. Most people who are optimistic about the overall outcome believe that if the bugs are fixed, it will be average, and developers should leave well enough alone and go on with their lives. Hopes for a strong storyline and a post-game are enough to keep Reddit user DashKatarn hyped. And maybe they're on to something.

Taking into consideration that the biggest problems with the game revolved around the storyline, it could help to "extend stuff with the romance options we already have, lifepath specific, or even romances with characters like Regina, Vic..." DashKartarn suggests. They finish this beacon of hope with a statement that couldn't be further from the truth: "The real reason this game gets flack is that it didn't deliver on what it promised."

2 The Story Is Pretty Good

Most players would rage about this comment, making it one of the most unpopular opinions shared by only a few Reddit users. User rattpackfan301 says: "It's a pretty good story, with awful neglect of the actual game part of it." They enjoyed the game's narrative, but felt that "the gameplay just felt like an annoying hurdle […] like a Lamborghini that is missing all essential parts of the car […]."

Although players can agree that the mechanics leave something left to desire, only a few agree about the story being good. With long, pointless dialogue and fleeting side characters, nearly no one was fleshed out in the game, leading to players wanting more follow-up games or DLCs.

1 The Gameplay Isn't Bad Either

To make matters even more confusing, even the thing everyone thought would be unanimous turns out to be controversial. Reddit user ThePainTaco went on to say: "Driving is fine, combat is pretty stellar, […] Just pretty solid."

Taking into consideration that the most popular opinions attack three things (story, mechanics, bugs), seeing anyone praise any of these is very surprising. But, as seen above, some people even said they don't have glitch problems. Perhaps it's all about the device the game is played on, or simply individual experience.

Creators have announced an original anime series "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" which will premiere in 2022.
