The 2010s was a great time for anime. Iconic shows like Assassination Classroom, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, and Hunter x Hunter were released, becoming instant hits. Naruto: Shippuden and One Piece were (and still are in One Piece’s case) going strong and maintaining their popularity.

Then, there are shows like Demon Slayer, Seven Deadly Sins, and the Fate/stay night series that dominated the supernatural genre. While they are great shows to watch, some other anime have been shadowed by their popularity. Most of them don’t have many episodes, but that shouldn’t stop fans from watching these great underrated supernatural anime.

10 Golden Time

Banri Tada is a young man that’s starting law school who suffers from amnesia after falling from a bridge. Instead of making this whole show about him regaining his lost memories, Banri continues on with his life and flashbacks will occur whenever he unintentionally shouts something.

He meets Mitsuo Yanagisawa on his way to freshman orientation and this is where the show really kicks off. Shortly after meeting Mitsuo, the two of them run into Koko Kaga. At first glance, she is a very beautiful young woman that most people are intimidated by, but she’s almost like a yandere-type with how obsessive she is over Mitsuo.

Luckily she’s not violent like most yandere girls. The anime is about Banri going through life while slowly regaining his memories while Mitsuo and Koko work through their issues with each other.

9 Devils' Line

A romance anime that has a supernatural element to it. Tsukasa Taira is a college student who learns about devils (vampires) existing in the world after a mysterious man named Yuuki Anzai saves her from one. Yuuki happens to be a cop who is half-devils and half-human. Though he tries his best to ignore her, Yuuki finds himself drawn to Tsukasa and they begin a relationship. He does his best to keep the devil side of himself in check, but it proves to be tough for him.

Luckily for Yuuki, Tsukasa is a pretty patient young woman and decides to learn more about vampires. She doesn’t do this just for Yuuki’s sake, but she firmly believes that devil problems are human problems.

8 Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha

An anime about a middle school named Inari Fushimi. She's very shy and clumsy, often getting into trouble. After saving a fox pup from a river, Inari is granted power by goddess Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami. Because she gave Inari a piece of her own powers, Uka slowly begins losing her divine powers. She starts to become more human while Inari starts becoming a god. Even after she returns Uka’s powers, Inari gains powers of her own and begins training to use them while going through life as a middle schooler.

It only has ten episodes plus one OVA episode, but it’s an anime that’s on the more light-hearted side. It has its comedy moments, especially with Uka and her being obsessed with otaku stuff and playing video games.

7 Nura: Rise Of The Yokai Clan

Rikuo Nura is a 13-year-old boy who is three-fourths human and a quarter yokai. He grew up among yokai members of the Nura household and looked up to them. However, after a discussion among his human classmates, Rikuo decided to live only as a human. He tries to keep his lives separated from each other. Not an easy task since he’s the next in line to become the Third Head of the Nura Clan.

A classic supernatural coming-of-age that will entertain viewers. Rikuo goes from rejecting his yokai heritage to embracing it and realizing that not all yokai are bad. He embraces both sides of himself and learns to balance both sides of his life.

6 Dusk: Maiden Of Amnesia

An anime that has an unlikely romance between a ghost and a student. Yuuko Kanoe is the ghost that haunts the school Teiichi Niiya attends. She doesn’t remember anything about her past and Teiichi forms a club to discover what happened to her and help restore her memories.

The two of them have an unusual relationship and Yuuko loves teasing Teiichi every chance she gets.

These moments make for great comedy, but there are still some horror and mystery elements that manage to shine through. If viewers are wanting to watch a romance with a dark twist, this one is worth checking out.

5 Hamatora

In this world, there are some humans who are blessed with supernatural abilities known as The Minimum. These humans who have these abilities are known as Minimum Holders. A group of Minimum Holders work as detectives.

The group suddenly has an increase in work after a mysterious string of murders that have one thing in common: all victims are Minimum Holders. It’s a supernatural anime that has some murder-mystery elements that leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

4 Tokyo Ravens

Onmyoudou magic was something that was very powerful back in the World War 1 days, but a powerful onmyouji named Yakou Tsuchimikado causes the Great Spiritual Disaster after a ritual gone awry. Now, in modern-day Japan, Harutora Tsuchimikado, a member from one of the many branches of the Tsuchimikado family is struggling with the fact that he’s born into a powerful onmyouji family, but has no magic power whatsoever. To add to his stress, he has to keep his promise to his childhood friend, Natsume Tsuchimikado, who is part of the main branch and the reincarnation of Yakou.

The two of them team up to stop a member of Onmyou Agency from recreating another disaster that brought Japan’s downfall long ago. Even though he has no magical abilities, Harutora keeps his promise to Natsume and fights by her side.

3 Yamada-kun And The Seven Witches

Ryu Yamada is a delinquent that wants to change his juvenile ways in high school. However, change is not an easy accomplishment and by his second year, he’s gone back to his old ways. Enter: Urara Shiraishi, the ace student of the school. After literally running into each other, they find that they’ve switched bodies.

Luckily for them, a few other students are willing to help them and create a club that studies supernatural phenomena. Turns out that Urara is a witch and there are a few others in the school as well. Their powers can be activated with a kiss and Yamada just happens to have the ability to copy their powers.

A good comedy and harem anime that does have some drama to it. Yamada and Urara make the most of their situation when they switch bodies. The two of them and the club they’re in try to make sure other witches don’t cause too much trouble while in school.

2 Kamigami No Asobi

If fans are looking for an anime with a little mythology, this anime is it. Yui Kusanagi seems to be an average girl that was raised in a shrine and is near graduating high school. After picking up a mysterious sword, she finds herself in a new world where she meets various gods from different pantheons. Zeus has created a school for the gods to learn more about humans and restore their relationships with humans. Yui is chosen as the only instructor and the anime is about her instructing on the real world and how to be human.

The anime doesn’t go into too much detail about the gods. With it being a reverse harem, there are some romance elements in it. If viewers are looking for a short watch with some romance, this show is worth checking out.

1 Okko’s Inn

An anime that’s a great watch for adults and kids. After losing her parents and her memory in a car accident, Oriko “Okko” Seki goes to live with her grandmother at an inn. She befriends a ghost boy named Uribo and discovers she’s the only one that can see and other ghosts that live there. Okko aspires to be a junior innkeeper and Uribo and the other ghosts encourage her in her goals. An excellent coming-of-age anime movie that’s a great watch for every age group.

While it has plenty of great reviews, it might’ve fallen under the radar for most anime fans. It came out the same year as some big-name anime movies such as My Hero Academia: Two Heroes and Dragon Ball Super: Broly (one of the highest-grossing anime films of all time). If viewers see this pop up on their feed, it’s worth the watch.
