Actor Will Smith has been confirmed as the star of the upcoming Tencent free-to-play open-world survival RPG called Undawn. Will Smith has been the star of countless films, and the successful actor is set to finally enter the gaming landscape by providing his likeness to Undawn from Tencent.

When Tencent's Undawn launches on June 15, players will be able to team up with each other to defeat mobs of enemies on mobile and PC. There has been some controversy surrounding Will Smith in recent years, but the actor has been featured in movies since the 1990s, and he continues to add projects to his impressive list of credits. With Smith being in roles where he struggles to survive like in Men In Black, I Am Legend, and I Robot, his role in Undawn may feel fitting to players.

Tencent confirmed Will Smith's role in Undawn with a YouTube video highlighting the character and some brief interactions that he has in the open-world environment developed by Lightspeed Studios. The video begins with Smith's character gearing up to protect himself against a wave of enemies swarming him that are dispatched with an AR before slamming one to the ground. A much larger monster with orange spikes on its back narrowly misses the gun-wielding Smith who slides out of the way in time to defeat the enemy and reveal the detail that went into his character design with a zoomed-in shot.

As the Undawn x Will Smith trailer concluded with a similar shot of the character walking through an abandoned city street as he did as Robert Neville in I Am Legend, Tencent fans are given an idea of the scale of the open world. The video confirms that Undawn is taking pre-registrations which include bonuses of in-game currency of different types, useful equipment, and items, with more tiers that may be unlocked with more sign-ups. Because the trailer concludes before spotlighting what Will Smith's in-game character will actually do, it's currently unclear if he'll be a playable hero or an NPC that Tencent fans can complete objectives for.

With over two million players seemingly already signed up for Undawn, the free-to-play survival RPG may attract even more players with the addition of Will Smith for the game's launch. Tencent's Undawn is Will Smith's latest confirmed project and the first in the gaming industry which may bode well for the Hollywood star and future gaming projects.

Undawn releases for mobile and PC on June 15.
