During Sony's E3 2017 presentation, the company unveiled an exciting new trailer for the Naughty Dog-developed title Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. A standalone spinoff in the critically acclaimed action-adventure third-person shooter franchise, The Lost Legacy is slated to hit the market for PlayStation 4 this summer.

The trailer for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy touted a slew of classic Uncharted goodness: sweat-inducing action, tomb exploration, dangerous obstacles to weave (or jump, or sprint) through, and a plethora of big bads to square up against. But the meat and potatoes of the clip were the title's main characters: Nadine Ross, seen in Uncharted 4, and Chloe Frazer, the former love interest of Nathan Drake, who appeared in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3.

The Lost Legacy follows Chloe in what Sony is calling a "completely new story" fit with all the trappings of a great Uncharted game. Stellar set pieces, intricate puzzles, lush locales, and cinematic storytelling cushion the narrative of the game which kicks off with the discovery of an ancient Indian artifact. On the hunt for the "legendary golden Tusk of Ganesh forged by the ancient Hoysala Empire," Chloe teams up with the revered mercenary Nadine. And from the moment they find out about the piece of lost history, things spiral out of their control. Tensions run high and trust is broken in The Lost Legacy, and that's just the start of it.

Chloe and Nadine aren't the only pair tracking down the Tusk. The deviously calculating Asav is also introduced in the trailer as the game's central antagonist, and (surprise, surprise), he has his sights set on the Tusk as well. In order to keep it away for the heartless war profiteer who will only use to to fuel his burgeoning civil war, Chloe and Nadine must stare adversity straight in the face, overcome fierce opposition, and venture through the war-torn streets, the ruins of the Hoysala Empire, and the valleys of India’s Western Ghats mountains.

Sony announced that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will arrive on PlayStation 4 on August 22, 2017, and it'll run for $39.99 USD. European fans will have to stick it out for 24 hours longer than the rest of the world, as the Naughty Dog title releases on August 23 in that region. Those who pre-order The Lost Legacy at participating retailers will be gifted with a digital copy of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, a PS2 classic hitting the PS4 later this year.

First shown off at PlayStation Experience 2016, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is the first ever standalone adventure in the Uncharted franchise and is expected to be developer Naughty Dog's most expansive and ample story expansion thus far. The title also feels fresh for its female protagonists, as Uncharted installments past have focused solely on the main man Nathan Drake. By the looks of this new trailer and from the information dished up by Sony itself, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy packs with it everything that makes an Uncharted title deliciously satisfying but turns the tides in an all-new direction sure to pay off.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will release for PlayStation 4 on August 22, 2017 / August 23, 2017 for European players.
