Since the launch of the PlayStation 4 in 2013, Sony has enjoyed a massive amount of success, as the console vaulted into the highest selling current generation console slot and has outpaced both the Xbox One and Wii U so far. While the console has been powered by great first-party titles since launch, talk recently has started to focus on Sony’s lighter than normal first party lineup of games later this year.
After a number of delays, including one to the highly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which now pushes the title well into 2016, Sony may have a few tricks up its sleeve to help fill the gaps in its schedule. One of these could be the recently rumored Uncharted Collection, and it may have just been accidentally confirmed – encouraging fans to get ready and strap into the weathered boots of Nathan Drake once more on PS4.
The reports surfaced after a leak appeared online which may confirm the long rumored Uncharted Collection. In an ironic twist, former IGN staff member and previous host of the PlayStation Podcast Beyond, Greg Miller, discovered the leak after visiting the Sony PlayStation Mobile store.
After the page finished loading, the game was visible on the main store front banner and looks to be officially called Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. No other details could be captured from the screenshot and the listing has since been pulled down by Sony, though it’s safe to assume that this collection will contain at least three remastered versions of the core franchise titles which appeared previously on the PlayStation 3 platform.
After seeing the news spread like wildfire over the internet, Naughty Dog’s own Neil Druckmann took to Twitter and essentially confirmed what had been seen on the mobile store. Following many companies which have recently opted to reveal unannounced games ahead of schedule (like Bethesda and Fallout 4), it appears that Sony is preparing to announce the title this morning in advance of E3. We’ll have more on this as they develop.
The leak, while not overly surprising, does seem to confirm many of the initial reports and finds that have turned up over the past few months. If the rumors are indeed true, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is being developed by Texas-based studio, Bluepoint Games. The good news for fans is that the studio is very familiar with Sony’s games, working previously on both the God of War Collection and Ico and the Shadow of Colossus Collection.
What do you guys think of this news? Are you looking forward to playing through the previous games again in the Uncharted Collection on the PlayStation 4?
